Hi Liz,
Deforestation is so sad. Killing so many trees to take both the beauty of the trees and the wildlife that lives in them away from us.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Merry Christmas.
Joan

Hi Liz, The removal of trees is very sad. The birds, squirrels, etc. need them, and we need the oxygen that the trees provide. During the 40 years that I have lived in my town, I have watch the removal of evergreens for one shopping center after another; many of them sit unoccupied for years. It was once a pleasure to drive the boulevard with its beautiful pine trees on both side. Now it's all shopping centers and parking lots. I'm very happy for the wetlands--they are protected. Amen.
A thought-provoking an interesting poem. Thank you for sharing. My apologies for the late review. Margaret ~ LateBloomer

Thank you for your complimentary review. They were taking down many trees just a little up the road from me. I swear I could hear screaming. That was something I wrote in my book "Traffic"
They say write what you know so I wrote about that incident and pretended it was taking place in my story.
I can't show you of course because fansStory won't let us post links on here. but I took pictures.
When the cut logs were piled up ready to go on the truck, I noticed on the bottom of the log was like a tattoo of something related to one of the spirits of the Native Americans. One of the things that Native Americans believed was that the spirits went into the trees when they died.
So I was stunned when I saw the the ends of these trees they had cut down. They are just a little ways away from a burial ground. But on the bottom of the tree was like someone took a black magic marker and drew a bird or drew a horse. oh my gosh that the horse was amazing.

Really is a sad commentary of foresting, or lack of it. Have you read about the tribes that were previously unknown or contacted. Losing their home to tree harvesting when there are plenty of materials that can take their place. I hate it.

Yes...grrr... Probably some Christian influence going on here. They've destroyed every civilization they've touched. The movie I watched and I allude to it in my second chapter I think of my brother's story is called The Mission. It pretty well follows what you're saying the travesty of destroying a culture.

I have a thing about trees. I get angry when they get cut down for paving though I know it's necessary - but not really; how lovely to pave around a
beautiful shady tree. Is one more parking spot worth it? To change from taking away homes for birds, last year I saw a beautiful stag with huge antlers running down our street looking for the woods he used to have. I hope he made it to the park that's not too far away.
I love birds and trees and I loved your poem!

You are so right We had a coyote running down our main road in Rutland, a small city, near the church. The nearest woods for him would probably be 3-4 mi up the hill. We've had bears too right down in our eatery areas. They're not stupid. I live in the woods where we would expect to have bears and coyotes which we do. by me they know they're they're welcome. I had this beautiful bear come to the bottom of my steps that went up onto my porch, I was on the other side of my storm door. I just shook my head and mouthed, No no you don't want to be here and it turned around and went away. Other people were saying "oh you should add alarms going on and banging pans." I said, " no I just quietly told it it didn't want to come in.
To comment on my pavement situation. It was a church wanting to make a giant of parking lot for the people. They didn't care about the birds. They just cared about their ego and how wonderful they would look with that beautiful parking lot. Well I've vented enough for now.

well, I hope you feel better now! :) that's the up side to venting!

This is an interesting poem after I have read all the author's notes. Sometimes we forget that trees are also homes, especially when we need them removed to build something.

Thank you for your pensive review. It seems to be a double-edged sword.

Thank you for sharing this club entry with us. Yes, it does seem sad that wildlife suffers so more buildings or parking lots can be created. I wish they'd take that into consideration.

Thank you for your complementary review. I will say absolutely to your statement.

I'm sensitive to things like that as there are so many varieties of birds and waterfowl here. I love observing and feeding them. It is difficult to please everyone as certain species, not knowing our rules, will mess up the walking areas and others get offended by that.

I hate it when I see a forest of beautiful trees being taken down to make room for more building. Trees take year to grow but in the name of prograss they can be wiped out quickly. A yard doesn;'t feel right without trees for the birds.

Thank you for your complementary review. Aren't we lucky to be able to still have yards and not blacktop. Little B was very concerned when she saw the black top covering the land she worried about the flowers and the plants. She worried if the footprints under there would just be buried forever.

I thought this was so creative. For me I could feel the weight of being the last remaining hope. Yes, as a tree. But also as individual if you read into this. To have to carry forward a legacy alone is powerfully sad. Nicely done.

That's so sad. I feel sorry for all the trees cut down for the new housing developments in the area. Ironically, as soon as they mow down the older trees, they quickly replant other trees!

Tragically, they couldn't in the situation I witnessed because it was as Bea would say, covered with all kinds of black stuff. Remember she worried about whether all the footprints that were underneath would be shown or covered over. She worried about all the things that were treasured by the stone pilers (Native Americans)
