Beautifully penned down! At times reality is harsh, perhaps even cruel but it is in these times of despair that faith in god gives us the courage to hope and maybe even the strength to get through it. I haven't always been spiritual but I have come to this realization, that god means well to all and everything happens for a reason- and by the end of your poem, maybe James understood god's heavenly plan, thus, spirituality bought a profound change in him, perfectly suiting the prompt! Thanks for sharing and all the best with the contest!

Wow. The imagery of James standing strong yet feeling his life slipping away is powerful. The poem does a wonderful job of sharing a journey that James faced dealing with the horrible reality of a terminal illness. Very well written and so touching.
