I thank my lucky stars I did not experience it. But I checked my baby all the time just the same. I had two healthy kids. With all my health issues I was pretty healthy actually. My first baby was 9 lbs 6 oz 21 inches born with two teeth, I couldn't breastfeed.
My second was a problem and I had too stay in bed because he gave me high blood pressure, I could only go to the bathroom. My doctor told me if I breastfed My boobs would always be firm and high. HE LIED!
Around age sixty and my fourth menopause, they shifted and some of the air seemed to leak out of the top. they sag a bit. I ought to write comedy for women on our aging process. I'll make you laugh till you pee. Not that hard these days. :-)

Karen, thank you for your review. Both my sons weighed over 9 ibs. Getting older has its challenges. I have health issues too. We'll both have to grin and bear it. Oh, my boob's sag too. Lol. Brenda

There is no greater pain than losing a child, regardless of what age you are or the child. I've lost two, and it's unbearable. But for a teenager facing so many trials just because of growing up, it must be multi-scarring. My heart goes out to the young lady, and I pray she found the help she needed to get through the grief. I applauded you for giving of yourself to help her. She needed a friend.

Brenda, this is such an important post!! It's great of you to educate us about SIDS!
It's no surprise to me that you were a devoted, dedicated teacher!

You portrayed a myriad of situations and emotions in this post. You astutely identified there was an issue and dealt with it appropriately. The student was lucky to have you to comfort her.

This was a heartbreaking story, and I'm sure that young girl was never the same, in a way it gave her a chance to be a young adult and go to college instead of being a single mother, God bless you for caring for her the way you did,

I agree with you, knowing the joy of new life is difficult to explain, and the loss of that life would be unbearable, my sister lost her small boy at 18 months of an incurable lung disease, she died in her arms seeking a transplant in the US, in a motel room on her own, one could never imagine that, but God gave her a healthy girl who grew up to be married, beautifully written Brenda, blessings Roy

Oh I can't imagine the pain of losing a baby like that. She had to have struggled so much just to decide to give birth to it and keep it and then to lose it like that seems unbelievably cruel. Your story is well-written and gives good information on SIDS in the notes. Thank you for sharing.

This story was heartbreaking, though you told it well. I really felt for your student was I was reading this. I hope she eventually found her way back to happiness. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

This happened to a friend of mine many years ago. She already had three kids, and this one wasn't planned. She and her husband weren't happy about the pregnancy as the other children were considerably older. They named him Jack Daniel as they said this was how he was conceived. Two months after birth, Jack died of SIDS. His parents were never the same.
I hope Julie is coping well and can get on with her life.
God bless,
Steve

I commend you for the way you handled the situation as a teacher and a friend. You do a superb job of introducing us to Julie and describing how she changed at school, first because of her pregnancy and then because of the baby's death. A perfect choice of pictures. Rod
