The Doormat really hit home. I was a doormat to my "1st" husband and his family for 30 years. The marriage ended when I decided that that was no longer acceptable.
(I guess I'm a slow learner) Since I tend to be a people pleaser, I have to fight that tendency even today.
Thank you for sharing.
Sweet kitten picture.
Blessings
Janet

Janet, I actually completely understand, as I have found myself to have similar tendencies. But then, we are nice to people, but?I find it difficult to stand up for myself even when necessary because I hate confrontation.

But?I damn will when I have to.

    Smile,

Me too Doug. I do when I have to stand up for myself.
A few years ago my daughter said to me, ? I?m glad you?re standing up for yourself mom, but don?t do it to me.? Haha.

Have a Happy 4th of July.

Hi Victortouche, I like the structure of this poem with its short lines and stanzas. It adds to the feeling of delicacy and attentiveness. The tone is gentle and loving. The imagery, especially the welcome mat, conveys feelings of hospitality and care. - Terry

He who would peacefully coexist with the feline who agrees to live among him, had better be prepared to be somewhat of a doormat, a floormat even. Whatever you do, provide food and water on a timely basis, and keep the litter box clean and ready for use at any and all times.

His name is Cheddar, the dictator. Oh yes, he decided that we were worthy as long as we are willing to abide by his rules. If we do not keep the doors locked, he will even let himself in and or out. If the doors are all locked, he will come and get one of us to let him out or make so mch noise from the outside, that we will be forced to come and let him in.

This work has reached the exceptional level

It seems a metaphorical embrace of respect and charity, when and where one can enjoy the status of "somebody."

Giving or receiving affirmation is a need, want, and a desire.

Acceptance spawns creation in the circle of positive recognition.

Welcome.

What an insight from an obvious intellectual mind.
Wow, if I may say so.

    Thank you,

The wide open door mat can be a metaphor for so many things and all of them represent an inviting environment. There are people, things, and situations, that would knock at our door and we would not want to let them in. It is refreshing to have visitors that are truly welcome. Thanks for sharing.

I think perhaps we have all at some stage in our lives unwillingly or unintentionally became a doormat for either a family member, friend, partner. What matter is we learn from it and we move on and don't allow ourselves to be used in such a way again. Very well written, I enjoyed it.

Thank you. I do believe you are smarter than me, for...never to be used again would imply I learned from the first time. Lol

I like your poem and the picture. The cat looks like one I had years ago. Pets love you unconditionally. I like the words: my welcome mat and the tenderness. Very good job.

A cool poem. I like the use of "bruises" instead of stains, or whatever, and "the cloth of me". Obviously you love your cat on the mat! Well written.

I read this because of the cat picture, I admit. I'm a lover of all cats far and near:-)

I didn't find it "self-explanatory"; rather, this could be the cat talking to you, you talking to the cat, the writer speaking to his readers . . . I never thought of a muse until I read your author's notes.

But isn't this what poetry is meant to be? In the eye of the many beholders.

Here's to hoping your readers walk upon your writing with tenderness:-)

Ha ha. Thank you, Pam. There are always several interpretations to ANY poem. Regardless if the author believes otherwise. I have learned this over the years.
So, you have hit upon a truth it took me a long time to realize.
Congrats. And thank you for reading me.
