I LOVE IT!!!
This made me laugh out loud for real. I enjoyed reading this short but powerful piece because it packs a punch at the end. I also liked that the character was a female and prayerful. She did what she had to do and I ain't mad at her.
Loved it.

Many thanks, wilkswrites. I appreciate the tremendous review and six stars. My apologies for the late reply; I don't check the site as much as I once did.
It's great to have a new friend here on FanStory! - Jamison

You certainly had a gift for writing short scenarios with unexpected endings. Details of Claire's physical appearance support her emotional response to the job at hand.

Thank you, Shari. Your six stars are a wonderful surprise. I don't know how much market there is for flash, but I do enjoy it. I appreciate your review very much. - Jamison

Congrats on your first place win, Jamison! As ever, this is beautifully presented with this distinctly haunting flash fiction about revenge. Wow, what a winner, conveyed so clearly and perfectly within the limited word count. The story builds up to its climax with suspense and intrigue. Well done! Debbie

As always, I am grateful for your kindness and support, Debbie. It's been quite a "ride" with the contests recently. I'll just enjoy it while it lasts, because it likely won't. (smile)
Take care. - Jamison

Now THAT is an unexpected twist! Good job on creating a complete situation and finishing it in a satisfying way. Pretty sure this review will have to be longer than your story...

Now that's a fine piece of flash fiction, in more ways than one. Congratulations on your first place win. It's definitely a winner in my book. The surprise ending is what's always the hardest to pull off on short pieces, but you did an amazing job.
Take care,
Rhonda

This didn't come into my PM box. I'm guessing because its a writing prompt entry. I'm glad I was searching for something to read and happened to see it. This is an excellent write. It has all the necessary ingredients for a short story.

You're right; it was a blind contest. I don't always promote the contest entries. I am glad you found it. Thanks for the review.
I am going to promote 2 more blind contest winners today or tomorrow. I hope you get a chance to comment. Take care, Barbara. - Jamison

Jamison, well, no wonder you had a winner with this one. That is certainly one way to deal with someone who apparently was up to some nasty blackmail. I am not sure how many of us would ask for absolution, but it does indicate she is a good person. Very well done. Terry.

Yep, forgiveness would have been a better choice than absolution. Edited. I'm surprised others didn't mention that. Great catch!
Thanks for the great review and six stars. - Jamison

Ah, justice to the blackmailer! I guess he picked the wrong gal to blackmail. Great job with this flash story, Jamison. I'm not surprised this won the contest, as it is a perfect flash story with all the elements and a great surprise ending.
Just curious: Are you still planning to continue with River City at some point?
