So, Madeline has a new friend! I like the way you slowly built the relationship, just like may happen in real life, the strengthened it with the common bond of both being prostitutes.
Great job!

Madeline and Esther will turn out to be great for each other. They both needed a friend to show them the better side of life. Glad you enjoyed.

I think you missed your calling. You should have been writing ghost stories from day one. I still say this is the best story you have written so far, and I have read most of them.

Esther and Madeline, one dead and one alive, have found a common ground. They both were prostitutes for the money. And they apparently worked their way in the house in that way. This is a very nice interlude in a story with a lot going on.

Thanks, Carol. I thought we needed a soft spot to catch our breath before the next spiraling episode strikes. LOL Glad you enjoyed.
Have a great day!

This is a very pleasant chapter in comparison to the drama and violence of the previous few. Probably a good resting place for the reader.
I'm struggling a bit with Madeline's revealing of a completely different side. She just doesn't have the same personality as earlier. I know people can turn over new leaves and get fresh starts which definitely changes behavior, but not really personality.
It's kind of fun learning (alongside the ladies) what a ghost can and cannot do when materializing in the corporeal world. The tea drinking was funny and touching.
And you are very slowly revealing sort of the structure of the mansion. I'm thinking it's much larger to the ghosts than the mortals, maybe?
Glad the next chapter is already posted...off to it.

It's purgatory...so maybe the mansion doesn't even exist in our way of thinking...a ghostly mansion as well. How do I know? I have not seen ghosts nor been in purgatory. LOL I'm just guessing asd I go. As for Madeline, she was scared out of her wits so she might have learned a thing or two...and maybe not.

I really admire the way you can just creatively run with an idea like this. (eg, the structure of the mansion). I'm always firmly stuck in what's been done before, but you have no problem redesigning to fit your story. A sign of real creativity!

Or that of a dimwit who scribbles her thoughts without knowing if any of it is feasible.... but yes, all of it is pure imagination, of how I see it. Thank you so much for your kind insight. You, too, are extremely creative and, at times, far more adventurous than me.

I'm really not, and I spend a lot of time trying to disguise that fact. :-D
I was put through gifted testing as a child. I failed. The reason being I couldn't think outside the box. When I asked what that meant, I was told, if you were given a task to draw a picture with 3 lines, you'd draw a triangle. We were looking for someone who would do something unexpected. I was crushed. I had tried so hard to give the 'right' answer, not make up my own. Anyway, it is a perfect description of how my brain works.

I'm really pleased that Madeline and Esther know the truth about each other. And really, most prostitutes only resorted to selling their bodies in order to live. But some went further, as with these two. Now they know they can speak freely, then perhaps they can save each other. Another informative chapter, my friend, now I can go and read the next part. :)) Sandra xx
I'm sorry I'm a bit late, I've had cronic toothache that turned out not to be from my teeth but from the muscles in my face. I've never heard of that before! It is easing now, but goodness me, it was really painful. :(

Hello, Sandra. Sorry I've been gone today...Corrie's birthday which of course I wasn't invited to, but I felt obligated to be the mother and do something.... which I tried but it back fired. The story of my life. LOL Do you have TMJ in your jaw or even sinus problems can do that... ask me I know. LOL I hope you are feeling better now.

No wonder their relationship is on the same plane, both prostitutes, that wouldn't happen very often. This was a lovely warm chapter, two new, well acquainted friends, sharing parallels in their lives, beautifully written Carol, blessings Roy

That explains how Esther feels that she has a closeness to Madeline. And Esther seems to bring out the best in Madeline because suddenly she's much more humble and caring about what others think. She treats Esther so differently than she does the others.

I'm sitting here sipping my tea with these two ladies. I haven't exactly figured out where you're going with this, but I am enjoying the ride. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Hello, Barbara...Hope you are enjoying your vacation. I'll make this short, but I hope that the next chapter I am about to post will give you a better insight as to where I am headed. We both know that most of the time I don't even know until I get there. LOL

Yes, we never know the real truth about anybody. LOL. But from what I've seen in life, it doesn't matter that much, because most people don't care about the truth anyway. They'd rather make up their own stories. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for reading three chapters today and leaving such wonderful reviews. I got a chance to chuckle....but I do care about the truth. That's why my daughter and granddaughter aren't speaking to me right now. Oh well, that's life.

I must admit that's probably not feasible but then since I don't believe anyone actually has been face to face with a ghost,,,I am safe for now especially in a fictional story...my fantasy. I'm happy that people are thrilled about the friendship...enough doom and gloom.
