Wow, this was unexpected. I never thought Madeline would turn out to be a good-guy, a sort of compassionate figure. So, she and Noah are really still in love.

This chapter gives us a lot of insight into the rules for the ghosts and ghost like people, and the purpose of the house and the humans that live there.

Great tale,
Rhonda

Hurrah! I hope you see why I hoped you would read from the beginning. So many twists and turns in the story and it shows that people can change. Even though Noah will disappear for a while, in the end I think their love will play an important part. As for rules... I didn't have any idea how ghosts should act so I tossed them all out the window and followed my own gut feelings. I hope it makes for an interesting book.

I love it, and, as you know, I'm all about inventing your own rules, even if it's for Greek gods.

Aww, cool. I almost cheated again and read ahead because your chapter keeps popping up in the feed, but I was good!

I must say, Carol, that you make them all come alive whether they are still living or have turned into ghosts. The whole concept is intriguing, although much heartbreak is at play. Hugs, Ulla xcx

Oh, if we could always see each other through the eyes of love and from a ghost. LOL. But your last sentence said it best. "Even ghosts can get tired of waiting." And I won't say anymore, fearing I might get myself in trouble. :-) Thanks for sharing.

Of course, I am laughing. Just took a break from pulling weeds and spreading mulch and came inside to be greeted by your smiling face and wonderful remarks. Now, how could a sweet man like you get in trouble? (She says with tongue in cheek). LOLEspecially when yu are so generous with the stars. Smiles and hugs, Carol

I was always told to stay out of the weeds. And spreading mulch isn't as bad as manure. :-) Hugs and smiles back at you!

When I began reading this novel, I expected Sandra to encounter a few mysterious ghosts here and there, but this is a whole different animal. ALL of the characters are ghosts except Sandra and Madeline. Sandra is called to the mansion to help the ghosts associated with the mansion to achieve a goal. This is a phenomenal plot. I'm glad Sandra now knows what she's dealing with and is willing to assist.

When I first started the story I thought the exact same thing, but somehow the story played out differently in my head as I began to write. I think we are headed in the direction I expected in the beginning but one never knows for sure.

As always, running behind on reading your story. I am drawn to the life stories. Forget where I was and have to re-read chapters I missed. What a challenging story. My only question was the use of "calamity of bodies on the staircase". Brain is blanking on a better word, but calamity speaks to me of disaster. It might come to me later....Esther

Good thoughts, Esther. Thank you so much for reading and making your suggestions. I too keep falling behind on everything. The older I get he slower I move I guess.

t is nice to know Madeline isn't as bad as she first seemed. She apparently did love Noah, just not enough to give up her search for the treasure. Is there a treasure of money or jewels, or something else altogether? Must keep reading to know.

I wasn't prepared for Madeline to have a change of heart when I sat down at the computer, but that's where she went....but then, will she stay there when the treasure is revealed? Have a great day!

Somehow I missed the previous chapter, so I went back to catch up. So much revealed now...everybody's a ghost, I think, except Sandra and Madeline.
You made Madeline a whole lot more sympathetic in this chapter. She doesn't seem villainous now, just made poor decisions.
You have really created a whole universe with different rules of physics in how things work.
This is a complex story with a big cast of characters. I have no idea how you came up with all this AND keep it straight.
Really well done. An engrossing read!

I was prepared to make Madeline sorry for her past when I sat down at the computer, but it just seemed to happen. Now I wonder if she will stay reformed or if the treasure will draw her back to who she was? Thanks so much for the review and kind words.

I like how you develop your characters. Your main ones usually grow over the course of the book and that is what I see in Madeline. In her you give us the hope of a person's redemption. It is possible to repent and change and receive forgiveness. And I like how Lorrie also changed, willing to give some grace to her former mistress.

When I began writing the chapter, I had no idea where it was going, but for some reason, I had to give Madeline (the dreaded mistress) at least another chance and Lorrie too. I can't promise she will learn from the past when the treasure is found, but at least she's had her chance. Thanks so much, Helen. Have a great day!

The story is back!

And look at you, rehabilitating Madeline and turning me on my head!

Noah still loves her? I was expecting this to go a whole different way...

Oh, wait.

This is YOU!

Your reluctant ghost story has become one of your best!

I fully expect the unexpected now!

    Hello, sweetness
I didn't expect to rehabilitate Madeline when I began writing this chapter, but somehow it happened.... but we must wonder if the treasure will lure her back to who she was or can she really become a different person? Thanks so much for the awesome compliment. (I'm haunted day and night by it) LOL. Have a great day!

You took some time away, posting flashes, etc. Madeline must have been quietly pleading with you to give her a chance!

You might be right! I thought she was doomed but life always throws in a few curves to keep it interesting. LOL

Thank God we all manage to get second chances...

I guess it's what we do with them that makes the difference!

I'll wait and see if Madeline "takes" to her redemption.

So Madeline has a completely different experience at the hands of Noah, he always loved her, and even in death she was still his choice even after the misdemeanours of the past. Forgiveness is a terrific feeling of wholeness regrasped, beautifully written Carol, blessings Roy

Thanks so much, Roy. Something in me made me give Madeline a second chance... whether she truly grabs it and runs or whether the thought of the treasure sways her back to the old Madeline, that's a secret from me and you for now. LOL
