People have short memories don't they? He told her not to tell about his secrets, but he gets on a high horse about hers? Not a good friend. They didn't need to help him, but they do, and he has not the gratitude ro reciprocate? Shame on Lester. Karen

Fair is fair. And if she doesn't stand up for herself who will?
I would tell Lester. You talk, I talk. Simple as that. :-) I bet gramma agrees. :-)

Poor Lester has a life that is out of control. His mother doesn't want him around and his aunt is an awful person. Heddy and her family are his only chance to have a normal life. Now Heddy has slipped up and told a secret that could cause a lot of trouble. Very good dramatic point to the poor little girl's life. I hope her grandmother can help her.

Chapter after chapter I hate Lester's aunt more. She is a terrible person. I hope she goes to jail and Lester moves in with Heddy.

Well done, another I intriguing chapter. You are a talented author.

This is a great chapter. The story advances beautifully, and I love the way it is written. Just the right amount of dialogue to drive the action and a healthy dollop of character description. kay

I enjoy this childhood banter and the disputed definition of being a man:) I was a bit confused by the 3rd and 4th lines of the first para. Never return a plate empty or dirty...? But this is another excellent chapter that brings children to life in the most endearingly sentimental way and reminds us of the horrors of war still very palpable. Thanks for sharing. Debbie

In the South if someone brings you food, you return the plate either clean or with a tasty treat in it. Thank you for this awesome review. So glad you like it. Gretchen

Now, I'm worried about Artie. He's a good person and doesn't want to fight for the Germans. I really like this story. Thank you for sharing it with us.

I knew this woman was dangerous and now we find out she is a thief as well and she could be abusing Lester, your story unfolds in a very subtle way and Heddy is being careful with the information she imparts, especially about her friend, another fine chapter Gretchen, a pleasure to read, love Dolly x

It's always nice to read about people we like, real or fictional, and Lester is one of those who I'd figured to take right up with. Thanks for sharing another fine chapter.

I love this chapter, Gretchen.

There's so much revealed here, and the reader's emotions sour with the fact that Lester's aunt is hiding mail, stealing money, and abusing Lester. I hope somewhere down the road, she gets what's coming to her.

Best, JohnC

I hope she gets what's coming to her also. But people like that rarely get caught. And sometimes even if they do get caught, they get promoted. Lol. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Well, they've both told each other a secret now. I think both would be in trouble for telling. Lester's aunt would be furious with him if it gets out she hides letters and steams them open! What a nasty woman she is!! And Heddy would hate it if what she told Lester got out. Sometimes, secrets must be kept. Another excellent chapter, my friend! :)) Sandra xx
