Yes, the person we love does tend to open the door to our hearts and we can choose to how open we want it to be. Once again, your presentation is absolutely perfect.

I liked "opens the latch to the door of my heart" as it shows that the narrator is cautious and perhaps was hurt before so only the beloved one is greeted with the door flung wide open.
