Congratulations on your 500th post, Douglas! What a delightful piece it was to read. Was there a particular reason for wanting the name 'Paco'? Interestingly, I can't recall reading any of those stories you've mentioned. I'm not sure how I managed to miss all of your Pacos. Though it seems I won't have to wait long for another version. Thank you, Douglas, for sharing your story.

Douglas, your 500th post was impressive in its realistic presentation of your childhood and the shining moment you were/are Paco. You are still that eagle soaring free in your life and through your writing. Well done and well written!!

Thank you, Melissa. Life turned out to be a much better experience when I became old enough to make my own life decisions and chose my own associations. Appreciate your very kind words!

Congrats Doug on your 500th post! That's some achievement in my books! I definitely remember some of those stories you mention, particularly What the Duck. Love how you can switch genres so successfully. As for the provenance of Paco, I'm not surprised that you want to hang on to that cool name. It's so sad that your step-father blighted those years but a real celebration that your very canny teacher gave you the best name of all. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Thank you, Debbie. I have inserted some other things in my stories as well that I shall write about at one point. Re-occurring themes and such. Anyhoo, 500 is only the tip
Of the iceberg. My muse is pressuring my brain to overflowing with various ideas and so little time. Perhaps another thirty years worth of ramblings! Ha! I appreciate and value your friendship!

Well, I am doing that 30000 word book contest that starts tomorrow. I am aiming for 30 chapters of a 1000 words a day. Sounds aggressive. I?m excited to start!

Paco is a popular name in Spain.

I know what is like moving from school to school a lot. The lack of stability is hard on children and teens.

School bullies are so atrocious for children that it affects then through their entire lives.

Well done

Congratulations on your 500-milestone post! This contest entry is a great post to get it on. I remember reading these posts, but never made the connection to Pace. I do understand moving a lot because of being military. We moved at least every three years, sometimes every year. My oldest son went to 4 high schools, the next in line 5. The good part was all the rest of the children were in the same boat, so they didn't stand out. I also understand the running from an abusive spouse. I had to go into hiding for quite a while because of it. My first novel, 'Two Tattered Hearts' is partly fiction, but mostly the truth of my journey escaping this abuser. Good luck with the contest.

I have to take you back to 1983. I was an 8th grader at Westside Junior High School. (Holy Cow! I had three boys by then. LOL)

You've done well Douglas, one of the reasons I don't follow you "religiously" is I have so many old fans I follow, and it's merely precedence, time and pragmatism, there's only so many hours in a day, promotion helps too, you're a fine writer, detective, gutsy, and a Christian, bless you Roy

I was thinking you must have hated Paco since you so fit to kill him in horrible ways. I was wrong you liked the name and thought it was cool when you go to use it. When I lived in New Orleans where half my son's school was Spanish, my son had a friend named Paco. He was one of the nicest kids at the school. I enjoy your true stories. Your other stories are well written too but pretty intense.

My writings on FS have been described as ACDC playing a concert in an elderly home. I?m still not sure if that comment was meant to be an insult to me or to Fanstorians. Ha! Regardless, my muse must be a rowdy, high-strung red-head.

First, congratulations on your milestone post, my friend! 500! Wowzers!

This is wonderfully written of your secret identity that has popped up from time to time. I see the likeness. You're edgy, wild and definitely naughty. How could I not notice?

You probably know this, but Paco means eagle, freedom.

Sending you my best today as always and my very best wishes for the upcoming contest.

You just floored me. I had no idea what it meant. That brings things full circle.

Do you mind if I add this to my piece:

Some four decades later, in a moment of incredible synchronicity and enlightenment, Fanstorian Sally Law recently told me that the name Paco means ?eagle? and represents freedom. Very fitting as once again life is stranger than fiction.

    Let me know.

LOL, well done, Douglas. There is no doubt you will use that name many more times. It certainly seems like a good luck name for all those first-place contests. I also enjoyed the detail of how you got the name and how you were treated as Paco. Terry.

Thanks Terry. I?ve woven other things into my writings as well. Maybe someday I?ll write about those things. My brain is an odd cavern of machinations. The one thing I?m sure of is that this is only the beginning! Ha!

First of all, congratulations on your Milestone, Douglas. You brought back memories for me of my earlier reviews of your work. My first experience with your talent came with "Lost at Sea," I loved that one.
I wish I had followed you more novel-wise, but when I see your individual pieces, I don't hesitate to jump on board, and I'm happy I read this as well.

You're a talent, my friend! You may have another first here! Best, JohnC
