Yup, it looks like Tommy found him a father figure and wants to be taught how to fix things. It's funny how things fall into one's lap. I have to stop here, or I won't get up in the morning.
Great job, my friend, and my dyslexia was quite manageable today, making this many reads possible.
God bless,
Steve

Thanks, my friend. It's great to hear that you've refused to give in to your dyslexia and have become a fine writer yourself and avid reader too.

That means a lot, Jim, thank you.

I'm a little late seeing this chapter, but I don't want to miss anything. I'll try to catch up. I enjoyed the dialogue about how to diffuse teasing by deliberately pronouncing other words incorrectly. Great chapter. Glad the business is open.

Thank you, Lorraine. I had a little trouble posting this chapter, but I got it straightened out. Glad you were able to find it.

For some reason this chapter doesn't appear in your book. It skips from 7 to 9.
I enjoyed the easy and slightly jokey dialogue between Alan and Tommy, and the contrast between that and the distinctly different character of Alan's first customer.

Thanks for pointing that out. Somehow it got screwed up. I have since fixed it, and it's there now.

Thanks very much, Roy. I may be self-trained in poetry and storytelling, but definitely not in electronics. Thank goodness for Google and YouTube videos!

This is another excellent chapter. It looks like David/Alan has made a move in name and profession. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Miss Ida is his first customer? What about the ten customers before? I guess they were just potential customers. I liked that you captured her speech and in the South, that's how they showed respect and I was always addressed as "Miss Helen" even though they knew I was married.
I am glad that Alan was able to give some helpful tips to Tommy. It sounds like they are going to be great friends!

We moved here to North Carolina from Michigan 10 years ago, and that's something we never heard back in Michigan--"Hi Miss Elise" and "Hi Mr. Jim." I like it.
Thanks for your great review, Helen.

I like this because you have given a person with dyslexia a way to use his handicap as an advantage to making friends. You have given Tommy a new lease on life. Alan also had his first customer. You have written this so naturally that it is like sitting on a stool listening to a conversation between friends. Well done. Only one little blip: Mr. Alan('s) helper?

Thank you so much for your great review and the 6 stars too, Carol. I really appreciate it. I love self-deprecating humor, and I think it works well in situations like Tommy finds himself in often, especially with Artie.

He will be a great role model and help for Tommy, and indirectly for Artie as well, because he will probably stop being a bullyand perhaps it will help him learn how to cope with being bullied himself. I am enjoying this story, and the relationships within.

That's a good point. Maybe if Tommy tries that on Artie, he might like the approach too.
There was a great scene in the movie Roxanne, a modern Cyrano de Bergerac tale starring Steve Martin. In a bar one night, a guy confronts his character, Charlie, and says "Hey, Bignose!" And Charlie says, "Is that the best you can do?" And then he proceeds to show the guy 20 much better insults, while the rest of the patrons in the bar are laughing and egging him on. For example: "Excuse me, is that your nose, or did a bus park on your face?" If you would like to watch this hysterical scene, go to YouTube and enter "Roxanne insult scene" and you can watch it.

Lol Thank you. I did watch it - very humorous!!

A well written chapter. I think you hinted that Tommy would have dyslexia too. But I see you've also given Artie a reason to bully and be bullied.
Interesting, this reads like a slice of life tale now. Where the story is simply the day-to-day life.

Thanks, Lance. First review I've gotten from you in a while that doesn't start with "Hmm." :)
Maybe Artie who is also teased will learn from this and try out the technique himself. Nothing shuts a bully up like agreeing with him. Ever see the movie "Roxanne" starring Steve Martin, where he gives the bully 20 better insults than, "Hey, Bignose." It's hysterical. Watch it on YouTube sometime.

Hello Jim,
the book is moving along nicely. I'm glad that Tommy has a neighbor he can spend some quality time with, and perhaps get started on a future career. I imagine back in the eighties it would have been worth the while to repair a toaster, but nowadays, I suspect the cost of labor would make repair out of the question, and who knows about parts. I so often wish we could return to the days when we weren't such a throw away society. Good chapter Jim. Keep up the good work.
Blessings,
Tom

You're right. No one fixes stuff anymore. Your printer quits working? Buy a new one. Many repair shops like Alan's have closed their doors. Even everyday people have quit trying to fix certain things like cars--mainly because they've gotten so complicated now, that special machines are needed to give diagnostics to figure out the problems.
Thanks for your great review, Tom.
