darkness comes when we least expect it
if a person dies, the darkness comes too soon, too fast
if people lie, there is constant darkness, they live in a dark world of no truthfulness
are we walking blindly where there is no light?

This work has reached the exceptional level

I have given you a six star rating because I'm very familiar with the pick ups and down falls a living life throws our way and it is captured moping your writing. Over the years I've learned that you have to dust off the best you can and start again. Thank you for Sharing your poem.

A six star rating thank you. Also thank you so much for both the review and the hinted concern The poem was a reflection of these times I'm ok.

This excellent free verse, rather than focus on colour, explores on a much deeper level, the emotions of melancholy or depression. But it also evolves from the darkness into the dawn of the day offering hope to overcome and move on. I enjoyed that transition. Well done and good luck! Debbie

This is a great little poem full of somber mess that is pushed away n the end. M
This line is divine:

to fight the demon come what may

I enjoyed this. Good luck in the competition.

Many thanks, Doug. As I wrote it, I was reeling from a saga; it might be a story one day.

Excellent work and presentation! Ive used the phrase, come what may, in my writing, too. The images supports your thoughtfully chosen words. Thank you for sharing this. I enjoyed reviewing it.

Best wishes,

Alex

As the Niel Diamond song goes, some days are diamonds, some days are pretty ordinary, and some are crap. However your poem is a goodie, and a worthy entry in this contest, well done, blessings Roy

I am glad your poem ended on a positive note and it can be annoying being surrounded by people who seem to know it all. I enjoyed your method of relaxation with a scotch to drown your sorrows here. An inventive and clever post, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Excellent poem using great description to get across your feeling. The rhyme scheme worked very well. I especially like this line:
suddenly it is early dawn
a glorious sight to look upon

That is the hope in the darkness.
Well done! Julie
