Talk about a magical evening. How nice to have a meal you enjoy and how it paid for. I bet the leftovers were delicious the next day. Thanks for sharing your Hallmark adventure. It made me smile.

Gretchen,
Starting a meal with Italian bread and olive for dipping is the way t go. Add a glass of Chianti, "que bono", so good.
I enjoyed your Hallmark post. Simple, short and sweet.
One correction-
little island of Cicily. (Sicily)
Have a great day

Lucky you! Sounds like you have a lovely boss. I enjoyed reading your non-fiction story and found it very interesting as I know little about Italian food.

Hello, Gretchen!
Ho Ho Ho all the way!
I so enjoyed reading of your Hallmark Christmas "date" with your husband; I have one planned with my husband for this coming Wednesday to thank him for all the lugging up and down two staircases of beloved Christmas decorations ... decorations for this Christmas where I had promised him that I was going to "go easy on the decorating!" Oh dear! I lied... just a little.
One tiny edit:
The thing about Josephine's is its (it's) a bear to get into.
Enjoy your breakfast on Wednesday!
Merry Christmas!

Lordy, Gretchen! What a treat that must have been! That shows you must be an important part of the workforce, and your boss wanted to show her appreciation.
That was an excellent gift for both of you on top of what sounds like a great meal, and I'm not saying that because I'm Italian; it's because I know how to cook it authentically! :) Asian cuisine? Good, but--C'mon!!

A chef? Or just a food lover. I can cook bare minimum but do love to eat. Thank you for this. Gretchen

I'm not a chef; I know how to cook Italian food, which is my favorite.

Elaine and I have never really been able to afford it, except for a few years of prosperity. an exclusive restaurant under our own except by our well to do son in law, has been extremely generous, taking us to the best hotels and restaurants, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thanks so much for this. We never used to go out for dinner but finally we realized sometimes it's good to indulge. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Discussing delectable food is always a crowd pleaser. I was complimented in my book Traffic with the exquisite finger foods we ate. I went to similar restaurant in NYC. The amount of food and number of little dishes, before, during and after the main course. Cool you had a nice experience.

I love going out to eat. Especially to a fancy restaurant... I feel pampered and well of.
I don't like spaghetti but there are many other dishes I like.
Your boss picked up the bill? Wow, how nice of him. You must be a wonderful worker.
I look forward to the next chapter.

Ohhhhhhh!!! I am covered in goosebumps, and your steely-shelled NY friend is crying, you wench! I told you last week, and I stand by it again: I just know I am going to LOVE this series!!
This is SOOO extremely special, Gretchen! You did the BEST job describing the experience, and even without the Hallmark ending, it was perfect. But that was the twinkly fairy light atop the tree; no two ways about it. Isn't it SOO NICE to be appreciated by someone who's in charge of your financial well-being in this life?? Just WOW.
Two teeny weeny spags: *S*icily and "The thing about Josephine's is that
it*'*s a bear..."
And here's a little chuckle that your meatball description evoked for me: Many years ago, at her grandson's graduation dinner at a fancy Italian restaurant, my MIL had gotten a little tipsy. Okay, fine, we all had at our end of the table. James was the graduating boy, and everyone was going around the table toasting him. It was my MIL's turn right as his dinner --did you guess baseball-sized meatballs?-- arrived, and with a naughty little tipsy smirk, this 85-year-old woman says, nice and loud, "I'd like to make a toast to James's meatball!" [Needless to say, it's a toast that's been repeated MANY a time because the Allens are a very sick family of people!!]
Anyway, GREAT second chapter in this book I'm totally loving. Thank you, Gretchen, for making my holidays extra bright. xoxoxo

Thanks so much, Rachelle. I spit out my tea reading about James' meatball. Lol. Old ladies can be hilarious. Thanks again. Your reviews always make me laugh. Gretchen

We had the same reaction as you...except we had wine. (What a waste, you know?)
Comment from Terry Broxson
Gretchen, you do know how to describe a setting. I see you and Chuck sitting there in this wonderful restaurant..sockless, no less. I hope when they brought you the leftover box, someone picked up the socks. It would be bad form to leave 'em there.
But how cool for your Boss to do that for you.
By the way, I think Sicily is spelled with an 'S'. Great story, well done. Terry
