Wow! This is a fascinating story that I knew nothing about. i enjoyed the way that your story unfolded like a version of social history while reflecting the events of the day over the course of the cartoon's history. Thanks for the share.

I have enjoyed all of your series on the cartoon and cartoonists of the past and present. I do remember Family Circus although I've not had access to it lately. I guess a person with latent talent and the desire to do something like become a cartoonist can teach themselves what it takes to be recognized. It has been fun learning all about these cartoonists. I've played around with drawing cartoons myself but I guess I wasn't motivated to get anywhere with it.

Appreciate your comments and the review. Perhaps you should have pursued your drawing talent. I can not draw a straight line even using a ruler.

You did not disappoint with this installment. I enjoyed reading about the Keanes, both father and son. I love how Bil based it on his own family. This was very interesting. Gretchen

I thought I knew about every cartoon that was ever published, but your research and knowledge has me wondering about how little I actually know or how much I've forgotten. Thanks for sharing.

This is how to present information in a Fanstory blog - it was easy to award a six. First, it is exactly the right length; I was so engrossed, I was surprised to get to the end so soon. It was planned meticulously, with no extraneous details, repetitions or fillers. The content was new to me (a Brit) but reminded me of what the Simpsons now is on UK television. 'The Family Circus' seems to be absolutely fascinating.
As you bring each character out of your magician's hat, I am constantly in awe of their success. To be read daily or weekly in 1500 news outlets, with a readership of one hundred million, is every writer's dream. It also hangs a heavy responsibility on the cartoonist, since the power to influence people is huge. But to make a hundred million people smile and laugh each day - that is pure gold.
Thanks for telling me about Bil and Jeff, and their 'Family Circus', Brett.
Best wishes from Paul

This piece was very informative and educational when it came to The Family Circus and all the cartoonists from the same family who graced the award-winning cartoon The Family Circus. I am impressed with the research done on this cartoon. I had no idea how popular this cartoon series was and is.
Thanks for letting me know.

Hello Brett,
my word you've done a lot of research on this. I never realized that cartoons were such a thriving business, complete with awards. I remember reading the Family Circus for years in the Sunday papers. Thanks for sharing this extensive research.
Have a blessed evening.

That's quite impressive for the Family Circus cartoons - and doubtless because they are very relatable. Another well researched piece documenting your book about comic strips.

This is so interesting! I remember Family Circus cartoon; I read it every day of my life, growing up.
What I liked about this post is how you relayed so much information about Bil Keane, but you kept it really interesting. It could have been dry fact after dry fact after dry fact, but instead, it you grouped the facts into clusters that went together seamlessly.
Thanks for this absolutely delightful read!! xo

I did not know most of that stuff, You did very good research here. When I took the paper years ago I read family circus. It was nice and clean, and middle of the road. No politics, no religion, just gentle family happenings. Good Work. Karen
