I don't know if it's me tonight, but this just seemed to go over my head. Could be me . . . I'm just tired.

But the writing is, once again, flawless. I appreciate that you work so hard to get it right before you post it.

Yes, the simulators would have to have all the bells and whistles and smells:-) It's sad to even consider a time when all of this might happen - might have to happen - but I guess it can and probably will.

This one was a bit technical with all the discussion of spin rates and apex heights, etc. One more chapter will describe a few of the mechanisms some more, but as I'm not an engineer, it hopefully won't be difficult to follow. Then we'll get back to a few surprises.

If only every decision we're made as the author has modeled decision making here. This is excellently written with authentic dialogues.Your presentation is very good.

Best wishes,

Alexandra

Thanks very much, Alex. One more chapter to explore some of the mechanisms in the simulator, then a few surprises coming up.

The funny thing is, these days, sporting clubs of any variety are using atmospheric and earthbound playing dynamics in their assessment of modern sport, in fact cricket has always used them, and even football is using kicks that would normally be impossible to score are now using aerodynamics in kicking for goal with great success, soccer uses them all the time. You're on to something here Jim, well done, blessings Roy

You're right about the science behind many sports, Roy. The aerodynamics of both club and ball design are paramount in designing the best clubs and balls, and the equipment companies are constantly tweaking their designs as they learn more. Golf swing theories have changed a great deal over time too, and seem to go in and out of vogue the way clothing styles do.

Site sound and smell all the great things that make up an awesome simulator now you get feeling in there that you feel like who you're my forget about golfing, and I'm just kidding. Another fine submission and written supremely well, that's only you can do I hope they get everything they're trying to plan for and maybe they can hook up as with one too, have a great night!

I never even minded the smells of some of the products they used on the turf, such as certain fungicides. There was even a fertilizer that was commonly used called Milorganite that was made from activated sewage sludge from the Milwaukee sewer system. It had a recognizable, not unpleasant odor (not like shit) that I always associated with being on a golf course. The guys will have to pump an occasional whiff of that in their simulator!

This is really a little more technical than I can understand tonight. I did understand the part about Great Clips as I used to use them. Your golfer readers may understand a lot more. It does seem that they have some really big plans to fit in a lot of golf experiences.

Yeah, sorry about some of the jargon used there. Like you said, the golfers will understand what swing speed vs ball speed are and what spin rate and apex height are. There will be just one more description of how some of the mechanisms work on Monday, but it won't be overly technical (just slightly).

I love that you even addressed creating the smell of fresh cut grass. I think there are lab created scents like that - they use it in the fancy Chicago restaurant.
Anyway, I am still trying to imagine the texture of the grass in the simulation and will the golf cart simulation be realistic, too?

I've always loved that smell of fresh cut grass.

As far as the golf cart simulation, do you remember the Prologue? We'll be coming up to that scene again very soon!

Oh, okay. Hubby was telling me of a golf simulation place that our friends go to. They use real balls that hit a screen and simulates the trajectory.

I'll bet they don't ride a cart while playing!

Recherche du Temps Perdu (Marcel Proust) is where we're going here, Jim - instant recall through the (surprised) senses. For our hero, Swann, it was a mouthful of madeleine cake - but for us it's sheep dung! Somehow I prefer the Proust! But only as far as that one idea.
The rest is your easy prose in dialogue - as good as ever. Some good ideas batted back and forth, as usual, and lots of possibilities for the future.
(I hope my file opened for you.)
Best wishes from Paul

Whenever I smell clipped boxwood, I immediately think of a day camp I attended one summer when I was 7 or 8 years old. They had a formal garden and I'm reminded of it every time I smell that smell.

I was able to open your file and listened to that beautiful music! I loved it.
reply by Paul Manton on 28-Oct-2023
Oh, I'm so glad you could open the file. You can have the 10 'Christmas Crackers' as soon as you like - but I also have a file of mixed composed and arranged music for my church (CCB = Christ Church, Barnet) from a service when I was Music Director last year.
    I will send those next.
    Best wishes, Paul
reply by the author on 28-Oct-2023
Great! Send them anytime. Did you compose them?
reply by Paul Manton on 28-Oct-2023
I composed them all, Jim. Some say 'words and music', some just the words set to an old tune, some are collaborations - and quite a few on the CCB file are new arrangements for the instrumentalists available. On the Christmas file (coming in November) I wrote almost everything, but collaborated on a few. All the info. is on the music.
    Best wishes, Paul

Of course, you continue to tweak appetities, but as I read paragraph five I wondered ... why you didn't write it in the third person?
... "so that you (they) could hit the ball miles downwind, and xxx would have to try using knockdown shots xxxxx playing back into the wind xxx to take mxxx advantage of a ground game?"

You're technically correct; it is inconsistent to start out with third person then switch to second person, but this is dialog after all, and dialog isn't always grammatically correct or consistent. He's not addressing his remarks specifically to Paul and Ernie, but just musing about others in general. It just seemed natural to me to write it in this way, but I'm not sure an editor would agree, though.

This sounds like a good plan is in place. Thank you for sharing. I saw no way to improve this post.

People may even like it more than playing outside on a real golf course (I would because of no bugs. I'm allergic to all insect bites.)

With the walking simulator will there be treadmill so the golfers can really walk as they play?

Yep. This will be described in more detail in the next chapter.

Good point about the bugs. That's one aspect of nature the guys won't attempt to simulate!

The saga of golfing goes on:) and you just brought up those cute little carts that are cho-choing up and down the hill. ""I think so. It may not be that popular of an option, but for authenticity and also to give folks a chance to sit down while the other players are hitting, I think people will use it. Carts are so prevalent that it just seems like a given to build them into the simulator. Kids will love 'em, and I think a lot of seniors will too. What are you smiling about, Ern?"'

Yeah, golf wouldn't be the same without carts. I've been using them for years because my feet are so bad!
