Sadly, it's often the life of the party that is suffering the most underneath, as you have Lea.
A wish. A hope. A dream of...just being a kid. That is so poignant, and it shouldn't have been too much to ask for. Just one edit Lea -
my parents or my family ever(never) paid for what they did
cheers

Thank you, Valda, you're so thoughtful, and you really get to the meat of the matter. And very accurate too, thank you for your fine review. I will go ahead and make that correction. Thanks again, have a great night!

I really enjoyed this chapter, Lea. You really bared your soul in this one. I love that you came to the realization that none of it had been your fault. You were a kid after all, and kids should be loved unconditionally by their parents. The fact that you had a genuine sociopath for a stepfather, and an uncaring (probably also a sociopath) mother makes your circumstances blindingly understandable, yet you didn't just fold but kept your wits about you and survived it. You had every right to weep for your lost childhood and your estrangement from your sisters.
I loved the simple pleasure you took from just allowing that water to fill you up and cascade down you to cleanse you. You took what pleasure you could in the simple things in life, because that's pretty much all there was to take pleasure in at that time.
In regards to your parents seemingly getting off scot-free with their horrendous treatment of you and your sisters, just know that I'm sure they are miserable people inside. Nobody who acts as they did can take much pleasure in life, at least not as we know it. And, if there is any sort of afterlife, I'm sure it doesn't bode well for them.
You, on the other hand, deserve only the best from now on here as well as in the hereafter. So you really did beat them after all. - Jim

It is perfectly understandable that sometimes the emotion just builds up and overflows. Honestly Lea, I read your story and reflect on the pain in my life currently and think, 'This too will pass'. Thank you. (Love 'To wash' and 'A wish'.) Take care. Xxx

This is so unfair that a child should have to carry the burden of survival, when at you age you should have been going on dates and going to parties. You biggest problem should have been studying for final exams. Instead, you are carrying the weight of the evil part of the world on your shoulders. But, you are surviving. You are winning. They haven't beaten you down. And guess what? You are an author and have a book.

Thank you, that was so encouraging wonderful! It gave me a great smile. I so appreciate those cause there's not a lot of those left in the world got to grab them while I can! Yes, I do have a book thank you and I hope it does good in the world. I mean for other people. Something positive to come out of all of this negativity. When I leave this world. I want to say I left it intact. Thank you again for that wonderful review. And for your kind and generous comment. I'll talk to you again soon. Thanks for coming along the road, you're awesome!

Aw this is so sad, Lea, and I found your chapter very moving. The build-up of this whole experience is just too much for a young girl. And your efforts to make sense of your new world have drained you to the core. You'd hoped, perhaps, that this was a transition into the new adult you but the child in you is still very needy. The only thing I would say here is that, sometimes (although I like their punchiness) your sentences can hang a bit unfinished: "Satisfied that the perimeter was as safe as I could make it for now.." I think it needs either a subject at the beginning or a completion at the end. But this is just personal preference. Otherwise Excellent, Lea. Debbie

Man, you hit the nail on the head with this one I went ahead and changed that sentence to thank you for catching that.
While you're in secret was fought on on this one. Mean, nailed it completely described my exact frame of mind at the time. I think only writers can truly understand writers. All maybe I'm wrong but you certainly understand me so I thank you again for it yet another wonderful review. And for your promise, I'm always happy to receive. And thanks again, sleep well tonight!

It was smart to fill the gap with twigs that allert of someone approaching. It is also good that you found a source of water. Being a commedian and making others laugh makes others think your have all together and are are happy but I've I know more that one commedian who surprised everyone by committing suicide. Is your mother and step-father still living?

You are absolutely right and very insightful to pick that up. I find too that with every talent. There's a deficit all about the balance. And unfortunately, artists are susceptible to deep emotional issues. Although sometimes I wish he was alive so I could kill him. I wouldn't really but the thought is juicy. It's not unfortunate, but the trail goes so much deeper. We targeted by my family and by my parents, they all covered it up, the story gets deep.
Always good to read your reviews always have something valuable to say. I appreciate it, thank you again that hope you have a great evening!

Oy. People far older and more experienced at life struggles than you have buckled under the weight you carried with you daily for all this time. I know I sound like a broken record here, but, truly, you are remarkable. Your story is remarkable because you managed to champion your way through. Such inner strength for ANYONE, let alone someone so young. This is such an awe-inspiring story, and you bring it such realness. You continue to not disappoint.

Yes you were just a kid and you shouldn't have had to live in fear and escape and live on your own like this. It is a very sad situation and I am glad you have grown up well adjusted and I would like to hear more about how you spent your life as an adult, a fine post, love Dolly x
