I Had never read her to my knowledge. But she sounds interesting. I would hazard a guess that there are a great many women writers that are virtually unknown. We haven't been really seen for a long time yet. Karen

How those women who are known didn't disappear into the ether too is a miracle. Men were determined that women not be distracted from their biological purpose and that they keep their unwelcome thoughts to themselves!!

My Review
by Dawn
(I'm borrowing this for another story, too. xxoo)

There's little I can say to this, a poem writ with love,
except perhaps, to say these words are scribed from 'up above'...
For who are we to pen a verse, so critics find a flaw?
'Tis angels' authorship for sure, inspiring such awe. :)

Thank you for sharing!

This is a beautiful informative poem. I had forgotten the source of "Laugh and the world laughs with you . . . ." Wouldn't it be great to be the author of a sentence or phrase that would be remembered by so many for so long?

What an enlightening poem. First up, I'd never previously heard of Ella Wheeler Wilcox, now I've a new research project, discover more about her. She sounds a remarkable woman.
Your poem is beautifully written. It will, I have no doubt become a source of inspiration for the many writers who read it.

It sounds as though she was the one who said, and I quote...
"It is always the darkest just before the dawn?") She was indeed
a talented writer. That last line is certainly along those lines.
Thank you for telling her story. Nancy:)

Thank you so much, Nancy, for your kind review and thoughts, greatly appreciated! Apparently, it was English theologian, Thomas Fuller, in 1650 who said those words but, you're right, Ella's are very similar. Take care Debbie

Your poetry is beautiful and inspiring. I can tell you put a lot of time and care into the words you chose.

This verse takes the reader on a journey that is filled with love, and passion for writing.

The presentation is as buoyant as parts of her life. Selecting the color yellow represents hope that we all need in troubled times.

A gift to the reader, to which I thank you.

Virtual six for this magnificent poem, my friend! Every week you have blessed us with poetic treasures.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox and I are much alike, especially in this stanza from The Winds of Fate:

Like the winds of the sea are the winds of fate
As we voyage along through life;
'Tis the set of the soul
That decides its goal
And not the calm or the strife.

Learning and growing as I go on the sea of life. Mike is a dear, isn't he? A champion to many.

Sending you my best today as always,
Sal XOs

Thank you so much, Sally for your kind review and thoughts! She was an amazing lady wasn't she? And that stanza you quote speaks so much wisdom and conviction, albeit underpinned with sadness. My very best wishes Debbie

Thank you so much, Helen, for this exceptional review! I'm absolutely delighted by your lovely words. To be honest before Mike mentioned her in his review of Frost, I'd never heard of her so it was fascinating to discover how ahead of her time she was in her thinking. Her poem about animal cruelty (Voice of the Voiceless - YouTube) had me in bits. Take care Debbie.

Hi Debbie, this is a wonderful poem about Ella. She was an avid reader from a very young age, something I can identify with. She had great sorrows in her life, making it difficult for her to cope. A beautifully written poem. Ulla:)))

It is a beautiful poem about Ella, a magnificent poet. I really enjoyed discovering her in your wonderful work, Debby.
With delicate and poetic prose, you paint a vivid picture of the life of a poet who endured the pains of loneliness, suffered through losses, and experienced the depths of grief. Your words bring to life the struggles and triumphs of this artist, inspiring us to find beauty even in the midst of hardship.
I really enjoyed discovering and reading this wonderful poem.
