Hi Yvonne,
Lovely poem! I really enjoyed it. And I will definitely try it in the near future.
It's a wonderful entry for the "Trijan Refrain" event in the Potlatch Poetry club.
Best of all, I love the repetition of,
"I hear them best"
"Their sweet refrains"
"to end the day"
and the rhyme of lines 5,6 and 9 in each verse.
Fun to read, and you've described the nature of summertime with songs from birds, cicadas, crickets; scents of clover, sweet rose, and morning glory; the magic of fireflies in the darkness and hot breezeless days of July & August. How I long for the relief of September's coolness! I'm not a summer fan.
Thanks for teaching this poetic form! I owe you a sixer! So nicely penned!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Bless your heart. Your lovely review is worth more than any ole six. I hate summer, but I love all that comes with it. If we could get rid of the heat . . .

You've described the sounds of summer beautifully in this one Yvonne.
Very clever using 'their sweet refrain' as one of the refrain phrases. That worked well.
Cheers
Valda

-A good image and presentation.
-A well written poem with effective
nature imagery, rhyme, and repeating phrases.
-You paint a good word picture of spring
as we hear many of the familiar sounds
we associate with it,
"The cheeps and chirps and songs abound
as they do every year."
-A very good concluding verse
that wraps up the end of the day.
-I was wondering about the first line
because it says line one is the same
in all three stanzas.

I did a variation that said we could do that. The next one I do will be done with the same line in all verses. Thanks for not counting off for that. Haven't heard anything about your local doings in a while.

Thanks for sharing about the form. I wouldn't take off for it😊 Nothing is too exciting at the moment except it has been raining with thunderstorms and has also been really humid. The last few days we have actually had sun. I am putting a poem in for Sun. I will share something with you later. Hope you have been doing well.

Sounds similar to here. We are getting a lot of alerts for air quality, too.

Hi Yvonne,
You did well with this club post. It kind of scared me. So I haven't tried it yet.
I like the strong imagery and use of sound to paint a picture of a summer day coming to an end.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a good week.
Joan

Don't be scared of it. You can do it. It's easier than it looks. Just be careful about the fifth line where you get the repeating lines. They have to be four syllables.

    Thanks for the encouragement, Yvonne.
    I may try it.

Loved your use of the double refrain and your vslient attempt st this difficult poetic form. The images smack of my childhood and I still marvel and the cicadas and crickets singing in the night.

Thank you for sharing this club entry with us. Yes, the cicadas are singing loud and proud in Texas. A friend of mine doesn't like the sound. I find it comforting, that all is right with the world. LOL I enjoyed reading.

My neighbor hates them, but they're in my trees, so there! I find them comforting, too.

A lovely poem bringing back wonderful memories of growing up back east. I guess we don't have them here at this altitude or climate because some to think of it I haven't heard them in years. We do have grasshoppers but they are not welcome. We don't have fireflies either. Thanks for the memories, Yvonne. Nancy:)

You've captured the best of Summer with the sounds of the birds and insects that make the days and evenings a joy. This form, the Trijan Refrain, is becoming one of my favourites. It's so rhythmical, it such a treat to read aloud. The repeating lines in each stanza make it that much sweeter to read. Well done, dear sister! Love you lots, Sandra xx

Thank you!!! I love the sounds of summer. It's the heat I hate. So far, we've had a relatively mild summer, unlike where Jan lives with over 100 degrees for weeks now.

This Trijan Refrain, It*s Time Again, has the proper formatting and certainly opens up the season to all of these zinging and chirping of the little critters.

Very nice, and I do like that little repetition which somehow succeeds in sounding like a bit of excited happiness at the liveliness of a summer evening. A beautiful
poem.

It is exciting to me to hear these little creatures. I find them to be soothing. My neighbor hates them. Oh, well, they're in my trees, so there! lol
