Wow! It sounds like you could write an entire volume on the ER! Ther4e's no one in the room with me now,, but I let out an audible scream when Don got the fishing ger in his leg. I truly love each chapter of yours!

Thank you Jim, I so glad you are enjoying my chapters. Yes, I sure that fish hook was painful. I don't think he ever cared to go fishing after that.

Nothing seems to hurt as much as your child being in pain.

By the sound of things, likely not (settle into anything which might pass for ordinary).
Nicely written. Good work.
I see the FanStory spacing gremlin got ahold of your last 4 lines.
Best wishes.

Thank you Wayne. No we never settled into anything remotely like ordinary. I think I've figured out how to defeat the spaceing gremlin. I need to go back and correct that.

I would be upset too if a stranger pulled my eight year old daughter into a dance. Good that Evan realized his limitations when it came to flying. Sounds as if Don is accident prone. There is such a thing. Humor here with the statement that Christi was not to be outdone by her twin.

Thank you for this one. Thank for the excellent review. I was shocked when my daughter got pulled into the dance. I wasn't sure what to do. I'm glad you found some humor here.

. . . here we are again - it's almost like a phone call this morning/afternoon. I think we are six hours ahead of Louisiana.
I would have been horrified to see my daughter whisked away like that!
Such things are rare in London N2!
Our A and E. (Accident and Emergency) units are very good, although the waiting times can be as long as 5 hours for non life-threatening injuries - but if you lost a leg that would get their attention! Other parts of the NHS are much better: I had a blood test five minutes earlier than my appointment time last week. And I pay for nothing - not even my triple by-pass four years ago.
Are your family typical? I don't remember any of my family friends' kids having quite as many self-destructive qualities. I hope that has calmed down a bit.
I feel very sorry for your husband's thwarted aviation dreams - did he subsequently get his pilot's license? Perhaps even worse, no Ponderosa yet; my mother was a farmer's daughter, but it didn't involve 10,000 head of longhorns! Our herds tend to be in the low hundreds - and thirty is not uncommon.
Well, this is another lovely trawl through your memories, but if I try to place the timeline, the Superbowl has not yet been built? So, unless this is a rebuild, I'm pretty sure I watched the Harlem globetrotters in there in 1984, and surely the Saints were playing there in the 80s? So is this crystal clear, vivid memory culled from the late 70s? Wish my memory worked so well!
Best wishes, Paul

Thank you Paul. I should be putting dates on these things. I believed we moved to New Orleans in 1981 because my oldest daughter was ten and was born in 1971. Evan never got his pilot license not did we move back to the farm. He became content when he retired. He passed away in 2017. I always felt my family was pretty tipical, and that I just have a better memory than most. People tend to block out the things that were unpleasant. Thanks so much for the in depth reviews.

Thanks for the clarification, Beth. I would have said that you were more interesting than 'typical' - if you were only that, I probably wouldn't have read so much.
Paul

Well, I don't want to turn you off to my writing so I'll try to be lest typical. My daughter claims I'm an enigma so maybe thats interesting. LOL

When a daughter thinks you're an enigma, that's several divisions up from being cool!
Congratulations!

It is fun how the mishaps and accidents seem to plague you on your move, yet your optimism shines through regardless. Looking forward to more happy tales.

Thank you for the reviews. I think it is fun to remember it all, the bad and the good. Most people tend to block out things they found unpleasant. I appreciate your reviewing these.

Certainly there was never a dull moment! Your acquaintance with the ER reminds me of my in-laws who always looked for the distance to the ER whenever they were looking for a new home because my husband was so accident-prone. But you had all four kids causing excursions there! I remember some of these stories from your other posts. How admirable that you and Evan were able to work out your differences so lovingly!

Thanks you Helen. I wouldn't want to be far from an ER. Evan and I both grew up in familes where the parents tended to argue a lot and neither of us wanted that. We didn't always agree but we tried not to be to verbal about it. We both compromised. Beth

That last line made me laugh. I don't think normal life and children go hand in hand. Just when you think you've got it under control, one of them zigs to your zag.
I really enjoyed reading about the French Quarter with its sights and sounds.
Suggestions to consider:
'Still, he was disappointed to see his dream of becoming a cattleman on his land in Mississippi (having to be) put on hold.' I think this sentence is a little awkward. Maybe if you delete the part in parentheses?
'... from the convenience of living in, at least, a (medium sized) town.' I believe medium-sized should be hyphenated.
'Street venders... ' I believe the word is spelled 'vendors'.
I'm enjoying the read, Beth. Did you mention in an earlier post what ages your children are at the time of the move? I look forward to reading more.

Beth, this much I know from reading a few of your stories over the year - accidents seem to haunt your family!
New Orleans has always seemed like an otherworldly place to me; you've confirmed it with this story. And I imagine it is even stranger now.
Your family life has certainly NOT been dull.
Thanks for sharing,
Pam

I do believe the more children one has the less ordinary your life becomes. Being a mother of four boys, I honestly believe. I even on a first name basis with the ER door at Fort Meade, Md. For real.
