You certainly seem to be a wealth of information on whiskey and the distilling process. I've never understood what they meant by proof. Is whiskey the only alcohol that has a designation of proof? My son-in- law appreciates all manner of whiskey. He's got dozens of bottles of various types. Some from Japan even, which surprised me. Some of it is very expensive. I'm glad he doesn't offer me any, because it would be wasted on me. I couldn't tell the difference between Jack Daniels and Costco house brand. Well done.

Basically, the alcohol content is half of whatever the proof number is. All liquor has a proof percentage. Appreciate the review.

This is another well-written and interesting chapter about the World of Whiskey Distillation. I am a little puzzled about the 21st amendment as you describe it. I thought you said in the first paragraph that it ended Prohibition, but the line you quote in the next paragraph sounds like it is part of the Volsted Act.

The Volsted Act created Prohibition. The Cullen-Harrison Act ended Prohibition. WOW! Owe you a big THANKS for catching that error.

This is the most interesting article that you have written about prohibition. I enjoyed listening to it very much. I just recently had my gallbladder removed and the doctor said that it was possible that that it was only my gallbladder that was causing me to have pancreatitis because I do not fall in the category of those who would be having problems with her pancreas because I do not drink alcohol. They say about 95% of all people who have pancreatitis are alcoholics. So there is something to be said about not consuming alcohol. Patricia

I can remember the film of "days of wine and roses" a story of an alcoholic couple and their battle through it, starring Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick. This essay is an amazing catalogue of distillers and a history of classic alcoholic production in America, well done, blessings Roy

I never knew anything about this history. Of course, I heard about Prohibition etc., but not all the facts. Thank you for sharing.

Until you started this novella, I wasn't aware there was so many distillarys in Tennessee. I'd only heard of a couple. I knew very little about how whiskey is made and I didn't realize it needed to be aged in barrels.
