Great poem! For a piece musing on darkness your writing is very colorful to the senses. I think I love the stanza describing the critters of the night the best, the movement of the words is so lyrical and fun!

What a comforting way to view the darkness - not a source of fear but a welcome time when the moon bathes us and bullfrogs serenade with lullabies and prepare us to sleep.
Congratulations on the win!!

Hi Helen,
Thank you for going back and reading this one.
I think the darkness gets a bad rap and when I saw the contest I just had to enter something good about darkness. We need the night and without it we would never see the stars.

This is a very soothing poem. There is a nice flow and rhythm to the words and the emotion evoked is calming. You can picture sitting out on the porch in the dark moonlight and listening to the night sounds. Thank you. Diana

that is a lovely poem - lyrical and "picturesque," taking the reader into a restful starlit night, listening to the sounds and enjoying the peacefulness of the day's end.
Congratulations on winning the "Darkness" contest. (Didn't see a "wrimo.")

Hi Katharine,
Thank you for the excellent review and the gracious comments about the writing. I entered the contest because everything else written on the subject of darkness was so depressing. I took a different slant and it worked.
No wrimo this year. Maybe next.

This poem, Comfort in Darkness, presented with four ABAB-rhymed quatrains, pulls the readers into the dark to hear and feel the essence of its subdued ambiance. Nice.

Hi, it's strange to love darkness but experienced it sometime back. When I was not in the mood to read, darkness provided a perfect excuse. I highly recommend your work to others

Hi heavenempress,
I guess I am strange. I love to go for a walk in the darkness and enjoy the sounds and sights. Once my eyes have adjusted, I can see quite far and enjoy things that I'm sure so many people miss inside their well-lit houses.
Thank you for the review and your kind words.

Very beautiful poem about darkness it has a great flow and rhyme. Congrats on winning the contest. I think we shared a win. I wrote on a different kind of darkness which is depression. Congrats again.

I loved this it flowed. From the first line to the final line, it rolled off the tongue delightfully. Some of your phrasing is magical. This is a write I'd be so proud to claim. Sadly, for me, it's far too good for me.
