Yikes, what a hardship to hold onto. I can`t even imagine how one keeps an event like that from not showing itself once in a while. Keep strong and blessings this Holiday season.

Nice (sad/haunting) story. Nice writing.
Done 'and' Wally deserve the same punishment. (severe)
Good luck in the contest.
And best wishes.

In this well-written story, you have told us of a tragedy that has more than one victim. The obvious is Susie, but she is gone, leaving a family (and perhaps a boyfriend to grieve, but you, through no fault of your own, to suffer the "wicked" consequences of alcohol. You writing is straightforward and heartfelt. Well done.

Your story was well-written and kept me engaged.
As to your thoughts, I would argue that your boyfriend is the one to blame. You made the effort, and his macho attitude and that he cared more about 'embarrassing his friend' than the safety of Susie, and for that matter, his friend, is just wrong.
Thank you so much for sharing your story as I realize it was difficult for you to do so. I hope that you soon have peace about this matter. Guilt can be a fathomless pit if you let it.

Thank you for taking the time to read and for the encouraging review. Over the years, I have tried to rationalize, but I still believe I should have been forceful. But that was sixty years ago and I guess I was afraid to push him.

"A Deep Secret " writing Contest entry, rich in theme and Imagery.
As I was reading this, it made me think of my son Jason.
Yes, who was also an innocent passenger in a car accident but into a telephone pole at 100 mph.
The driver who intentionally
did this also survived.
...
3 weeks later two kids around the same age as my son.
Yes, were going to a party passing, the exact location, of the accident.
And, describing my son right down to the colored shirt he was wearing.
The wild curly hair and glasses!
Now my youngest daughter Dana was at that party and as a result.
Yes,came home in tears!
Good luck with your Contest Entry.

Thank you for taking the time to read and for the encouraging review. I am sorry for your loss and your daughter's pain. It is hard to know what the spiritual beyond holds.

I hate to hear about these heartbreaking stories and what could be worse than a life of promise lost at a young age? I have a friend who had a son die this way. In that case, the young driver died too.
Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the contest,
