This is a lovely way to celebrate a life lived well. Only someone who made your life special would deserve such thoughtfulness. You are very fortunate to have had someone so special in your life. You have done a good job inviting us into your memory meeting.

I agree that memories can be so real. Your story of a ritual with a departed loved one was beautiful and sad. Thank you for sharing this, and best wishes to you.

Awesome picture painted including the memory in just 100 words. I am so impressed. It reads like a poem too, have you read it aloud? It is poetic. Has such a natural rhythm and rhyme. Good luck in the contest. I am sure there are little editing tweaks you could use that would make it even better, but honestly I don't see them, I took so much pleasure in reading it.

Olivanne,
Glad you enjoyed the story. Yes it is poem like for sure. Was not intended to go that way. Just happened. Maybe it was because I have been writing quite a bit more poetry lately.
Thanks for the review and please take care over Christmas and the New Year.

You draw the reader in as you keep us in mystery in the first paragraph. and you continue to weave a mysterious air: "You would think that there is no one else in the other chair," This has a great ending leaving projection to the reader. So much more I could say, but this is enough.

Your carefully selected words create a little mystery and a feeling that something good is about to happen. And then, you delight inthe memories of your son who is so near in spirit. Well done. Good luck with the contest.

Hi Barry,
This is such a sweet Flash. I know I feel my mom and sister around me all the time. I can't decide if my sister is encouraging me or telling me, as usual, that I'm not going anywhere with this.
We all have our rituals and feel our loved ones close.
Susan :)

A story told very succinctly and suited to the festive season approaching!
Each paragraph in turn follows the form: introduction, development and a happy, positive conclusion!
This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.

I think flash fiction is something of a challenge but you've managed it very well. This is a touching ritual and one that I can see myself engaging in. I think I will give it a try.

Barry,
I counted seven places in your story where you do not have a space after a comma or a period. I suggest you take a look before the contest.

Thomas

Dolly,
Thanks for the review and so sorry for your loss. My Dad passed away almost 6 years ago at 93. The ritual I describe in my story helps bring him back just for a bit. You would know how that is.
Cheers and keep smiling and writing.
Barry.
