What a wonderful twist to the tale! You really are an expert when it comes to leaving your readers with a cliff-hanger, Sandra. I also had a giggle when you described the whiskey induced euphoria Gwendolyn settled into when she was ranting at her father's portrait. I can't stand whiskey, but I do believe I've done something similar thanks to red wine in the past. Sometimes letting it all out to an invisible audience makes you feel so much better - or better still, writing about it on Fanstory!

Strong chapter. I think you opened it up really strong with that scene of Gwendollyn disparaging her father, showing us at once the roots of her twisted outlook on life, how she resented how she was used in being married off for money, and kept idly pursuing needlework. But there is a sinister turn to her, as she hints at murdering her own father. Lots of her personality and character comes out here in this tense solo. And then you left us with plenty of suspense as that last line hints at some mystery in how meg's father lost his money. We're about to find out...estory

Oh! So perhaps Lord Brandon did something to send Meg's father into bankruptcy specifically to separate her from his son? There are some sinister skeletons in these regal houses! Enjoyed this chapter!

Richards's title her father wanted, (Richard's) unless this was part of Bessie's speaking style.

I knew when Bessie said she found something...
you weren't going to tell what it was until
my next birthday in May...

and I most say...you certainly are familiar with the tingling sensations of a warm sip of the lip glass of whiskey...that when swallowed...not only burns when going down...but warms the cockles of your heart...total contentment...hmmmmm....

and Gwendolyn may not be a innocent as she reads...GO GIRL...Richards not as high up on the royal latter as he thinks...at least not in Gwendolyn's eyes...he may want to stay out a bit longer...

I'm glad to see Margot got some rest...she's not a full pledged ghost...at least not yet...we still have to remember how she got here...Miles sees her as Meg...

so I guess I'll have to wait for the next chapter or 5 to see why Bessie's eyes were all lit up...

I like this chapter as one of my best...I got to know you a little better...LOL...but truly my amazing friend...I like the suspense...always written for your readers enjoyment...

LOL! You are hilarious!!! Did I ever tell you your birthday is the day after my mums? Hers was the 16th May. Had she lived, she would have been 95 this year, exactly 20 years older than me. Now she's only 10 years older. We'll be twins when I get to be with her again.

Now, let me put you right. I got the details from Graham about the whiskey, LOL, he's the expert when it comes to what a good whiskey tastes like. He doesn't get it that often, lol!! (or the whiskey!!)
Yes, Gwendolyn is well up with the Hemlock, she knows it works.
The next chapter will be a turning point. What I'm proposing is that Margot ..... when Bessie .... So that should take .... right?
