Poor Marlene will soon end up with no hair, and a blonde wig, perhaps! I think I would have dumped Henry long ago. He obviously likes to show her off for her looks, but does he even really know her? As for his black dyed hair, that could cause him some major health issues one day. Oh what damage vanity can do. lol Fun read.

Marlene has increasingly given up her independence; she's well aware of this and is fine with it. Go figure.
Last I saw her, she's got dark roots--Henry wants her to get it professionally colored--but the damage is done.

Poor Marlene! Apparently Henry wants an image of who he wants by his side instead of the real person. It's really sad for both of them. Nevertheless, your story is well written, and I enjoyed reading it.

has my first grey hairs in my blondish-brown hair at 21. In my 40's I tried dye for I had gone from salt and pepper to grey, medium blonde made me look natural. In my fifties, it became a pain and I went au natural. I am happy in my vanity. I in the same time want my wife to continue to be a scarlet forever. Excellent work.

Poor Marlene ruining her hair to please her man whilst he dyes his hair black in contrast! He he he, bleach can strip the hair of all its colour and leave it looking like straw! I enjoyed the story of these two lovers musing about their hair, love Dolly x

You paint a very vivid picture of a very garish couple. I am surprised that Marlene stayed with Henry with him being so controlling but hey ho. A very good read cheers. Jen.

Hi Liz,
I feel sorry for poor Marlene. Why would she allow Henry to bully her into dying her hair? ... with cheap hair dye to boot! You won't be able to buy good dye at a Dollar Store. And let's think about the health percussion as well... "the NTP has not classified exposure to hair dyes as to its potential to cause cancer. However, it has classified some chemicals that are or were used in hair dyes as "reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens." "
Marlene is ruining her hair... because of a man. She should have ended their relationship the very first time he asked her to dye it.
Did you see some of the female Olympic athletes who dyed their hair two colors, or more? It actually looked good on some of them... in the sport. But on the street, I think it would look dumb. They were mainly in Track & Field, I think.
Nicely penned!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Why do we do that to ourselves and each other? Nobody is happy with what they have. Me, I'm totally gray and shave that crap off. What a wonderfully written story. Best of luck with your writing!
Have a great day and God bless.

This is a bit more eerie than your usual comedic fare, with this woman changing her appearance to suit the taste of her lover. It really is an illustration of how much influence other people can have over our sense of self. I would catagorize it as dark comedy, I guess. There's almost a twilight zone kind of feel to this one. estory

That is an interesting story. She must really want to be with that man to let him talk her into changing her hair colour. I believe God gave us the hair colour He knew was best for us and as we age, it ages along with us.

I have strong reservations about men who care more about my hair and make-up than I do. I once broke up with a boyfriend over that issue. Who has the time to do a full paint job every day???
Does Henry control everything about Marlene or just her hair color? LOL
Out of curiosity, how does he feel about your pastel pink locks?
I love all the various characters you introduce us to!

Henry's never remarked on my hair. Chuck likes my hair--or at least, he's gotten used to it over the years.
My guy before Chuck wanted me to get my tits "fixed"--I told him if he wants 25-year-old tits, go get a 25-year-old--and see how long she'll stay with an old geezer like you (he was 64 at the time--my age now-- OUCH).

Were they broken?
For the life of me, I don't understand men and tits.
-
Exactly what I said to Dick #3--they ain't broke.
Out of the other side of his mouth he says he hates the fake look.
-
They don't know fake from real, at least my husband doesn't. He's always surprised when someone points out the obvious.
