The little tease about Brucker's mother's letter is intriguing. The background information on the two German's their different reasons for being there puts a personal slant on the whole thing. I enjoyed this chapter Jim,
cheers,

You will get a chance to read that letter in a couple of episodes' time. Many thanks for this complimentary review.

Ha, ha, ha there is a prototype for soldiers that each country has for the enemy soldiers: "BrĂ¼cker helped Von KĂ¼hlenberg to climb out of the bin. It seemed to him they had been captured by the renowned Colonel Blimp himself, except that this officer was somewhat thinner than he had always imagined the archetypal British colonel to be." Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

-A good photograph for your story.
-There was certainly a lot going on.
-The description of the two men and
their differences in allegiance to
Germany was significant, but
because the superior officer
was more or less incapacitated,
it was Brucker who had to take charge,
and charge, he did!
-I liked some the of background you gave
through the mother's papers, and I
don't know if more will come of that
since they just surrendered.
-I guess they didn't have much choice.
-Brucker didn't second guess himself
when breaking the other man's wrist,
and I can't say I blame him.
-I like the ending, and the story
was interesting, as I am sure
the next segment will shed
some light on this one!

Hi Jim, this was a great chapter. Well they all are. But I couldn't help to smile at this one. It almost comes across a bit farcical, and we do know, there was nothing farcical about this war. But all the same.
Well, they have been found and that is as well. Now I have to wait until Sunday until I find out what happens next. Ulla:)))

It was getting close to an episode of 'Dad's Army's without the slapstick element and they did get their prisoners. Many thanks for the review and I am pleased you could see the darkly numerous side.

Good grief! I have not read much of your non-poetic works. Th8is is absolutely marvelous! I shall start at the begging (a very good place to start!) and work into reading this whole piece. I found it quite riveting and you are as talented and prose writer as you are a poet and as you are a fine tutor tha6t is really saying something-well done I loved this. kindest regards Meia x

Thank you so much for this review. This is actually the second book in a trilogy centred on the mill in which these Germans hid. To get the full effect you should really read the first book as well, 'The Maid of the Mill'. Please don't feel you should review all the chapters though. Just read it for enjoyment.

well I don't read because I feel I have to. Only if I really enjoy it. Just having been gone for so long, I have a fair bit of reading to catch up on! kindest regards and well done m :)

Interesting characters, good action sequence, and lots of common sense by Bruckner. Your usual excellent writing. I have just one question. In paragraph 4 you say, "he was too independently minded . . ." but I think Independent-minded seems a bit more correct. Missed a few chapters, darn. But this is easy to pick up and very enjoyable.

Thank you for this interesting review. I think your query is subject to cultural difference, minded is part of a verb and would therefore be modified by an adverb. Independent is an adjective. That would be the way we do it in the UK.

I thought I remembered you were in the U.K., but wasn't sure. You are so right about there being differences.

Excellent chapter! A lot of action and a lot of detail. It went by so quickly for the length it is. I was very entertained and can read an entire novel like this, without a problem and gladly. Thank you for sharing this. Hugs.

Very suspenseful chapter leading up to a near-fatal encounter between the two Germans and the British Home Guard. The rear gunner is a very sympathetic character, compared to his full Nazi counterpart, the ace pilot. I'm wondering whether, or how this will connect to our regular characters.
I didn't find any errors in English, and German really isn't my thing :-D

BrĂ¼cker had a lot more sense than his boss. Good for him, I'm glad he didn't fight it out, he'll go home to see his mum. :)) So, our Tommy is now in the Home Guard, good for him! Now he'll get a medal, too! This was a really nice read, and I hope that BrĂ¼cker will end up being one of those German prisoners that worked on the farms. Another excellent chapter, Jim. Well done! :)) Sandra xx

Dear jim, you must have a sense of humor, to have titled this chapter as a 'Battle.' ( one shot fired and total surrender for LOL. You have to be kidding ! ! )
One thing I need to thank you for, is your complete description of the contents of that deposition.
Your description of the Colonels Uniform was a perfect lead into, the next chapter.

Despite it being a world war there were many areas that saw now action. For these quiet action this was about as exciting as it got. Many thanks for reviewing.
