That must have been an exciting time of your life together. Doing something on the spur of the moment can be fun. You're all set to go, and I'm wondering, will you move there? I really enjoyed this part, Beth. :)) Sandra xxx

I'm glad things are moving along smoothly for the Shelby family in this chapter, especially for Don. Those were some very efficiently made plans for a trip! It was sad that Evan lost his mother, but it worked out well that they had that week together, first.

That was a very concise description of the Iran-Contra scandal. I was actually happy to read your description, having been so involved with my newfound spiritual life, at the time, that I really couldn't tell you exactly what happened. I was born again in 1983, and joined my current church in 1985 -- I was very involved, attending about four times a week, all while working, and helping take care of my aging grandmother -- she was a sweetheart of a lady, and a best friend to me... but this is your story, not mine ;-)
I do remember that Ronald Reagan was a great president, who was also nicknamed the "Teflon President," and for good reason. Those days are certainly over.

Thank you so much Mary Kay. I'm glad you read this one while it was still on the active list. I feel much better about my stories after you've looked over them because you always catch thing that I and others miss. I love your comments.

Isn't it amazing how, just when you think you've got life 'scoped out', your better half throws a curve ball at cha.... but they can be fun, right?! ;) Well, I look forward to hearing how Georgia works out for the Mississippi folk... :) :) Thanx for sharing! ;) Yvette

It is interesting that your son is looking into chiropractic medicine. Your motherinlaw sounds like she was a spunky individual. I am looking forward to reading about possibly moving to Georgie. Excellent flow of story that holds the reader's interest.

This is very good information to leave to your children. It sounds as if you had a great marriage. I do not, however, see why you added the information about the Iran-Contra affair. It didn't really effect your marriage or family. Best of luck get the rest of your memories written down.

Thank your for the review and comments. I added that because a number of my readers have requested that I write something about what is happening in the world during the time period I'm writing about. They say it adds to their enjoyment by being about to remember. I always get Thank Yous for doing that. You can't please everyone. LOL Beth

I bet that was a complete shock for you with him not wanting to plan just go. Maybe you're rubbing off on him a little, 30 odd years later, lol. Better late than never, right? I do hope the trip goes well. Your post is well-written, very interesting. I look forward to reading more.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I was shocked that he was so quick to be ready to travel. It was nothing like him. Retiring young gave him time to be himself. I liked the new Evan.

This was a fun chapter. I do remember the Iran-Contra issue. I have a feeling in the future we will be having some more issues. I enjoyed reading this as I do all of your posts.

Great to catch up with your family again. You have a very nice way of tying your memories together into an enjoyable story. Not just your family - it's a pleasant look back in time.
Just a few small things:
"In March of that year..." There's a hanging period above this paragraph.
"U.S. Hostages..." hostages should be lower case.
"...until Glen returned May. " I think the word 'in' is missing.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Beth, this is a fun chapter and full of surprises, from your children, and not least from your own husband. I can understand you wanting to see what was going to happen.
Then there was the sudden death of your mother-in-law, and the political scandal, which reached far outside the realm of America.
until Glen returned May. = until Glen returned in May.
Also in subtitles: It should be New Orleans
I love this, as you know. Ulla:)))

Thank you Ulla. I 'm glad you enjoyed this one. My husband was far more relaxed after he retired. He was only 56 and had more energy than I ever had so I guess pent up energy made him ready to be more spontaneous. Thanks for noticing the spags.

Yes, at 56 you would have. I'm looking forward to what's next.:)))

I wish I could give you six stars...but I only have five to award. Your writing style is so open and flows so smoothly. I so enjoy reading these glimpses into your family history...I am beginning to feel as though I know you and your sweet family (I felt so sad when I read of your mother-in-law's passing, but was glad to know she'd had some special time with your husband before she passed). Thank you for continuing to share your memories. Be well.
