Very delightful. Yes, I remember those yard ornaments, usually in the yard of senior citizens. In 1999 I bought a building and converted it into a beauty shop. I called it Island Oasis and that was my theme. Of course my beauticians were much younger and not too keen on my ideas. But, they accepted my flamingo theme because the older clients loved it. Six years later they wanted to remodel and go black and gold. I sold it to one of my beauticians. :))

Ha ha! Those whippersnappers don't know what's cool! Black and gold? As in Pittsburgh?
Thank you for reading and reviewing my poem.

thanks! I always thought they were tacky, but as I get older, I like them more and more. And I am afraid of birds, so this one is definitely my favorite bird species!

Ha ha. Creative, funny approach to this contest, but it specified an actual bird species. I guess if it's a state bird, it's actual? Hmmm. Good luck in the contest.

Well, I figured since it had an actual Latin name, I could argue it. :-) If not, I had fun with it. Thanks for the review.

hahaha.... I applaud your originality in writing about a tireless plastic bird. A flamingo as a pink soldier standing guard does fit how they appear. It was also interesting to read the back story about how they are now considered 'an endangered species' - that is a great way to raise the value of a piece of art.

Thank you so much for your kind words and reading. I was originally going to write about a flamingo and when I went to get some facts about them, I ran into the information I posted in the notes. I was cracking up.

Here's a story from my past: my neighbour's had a pair of plastic garden flamingoes. My brother died when i was 10 and I wasn't allowed to go to his funeral. Those neighbours looked after me while Mum and Dad were at Terry's funeral. I was upset at being left out from saying goodbye to my brother, so in an act of revenge I carted the flamingoes out of the garden and climbed on the roof and put them up there.
