Interesting comparison of a nuclear testing to a divorce. Like the bomb, the ripple effects of a divorce can be felt for quite some time after the initial "explosion." Its effects impacting the lives of those outside of the family's nucleus as well as those living at its core. You captured it well.
Nicely done and good luck in the contest.
Take care,
Nita

Powerful stuff. As a writer, you left a big impression on me here early in the a.m. Kudos to you. You created a great mental image, and it was a scary one.
I appreciate you sharing, and look forward to more of you work.

Divorce is devastation with fallout affecting so many family members and friends in so many adverse ways. Excellent comparison! The emotional impact of your words is amazing. Blessings, Linda

Sixteezkid,

Your analogy is right on. Divorce is so heart-wrenching and difficult for families, yet more commonplace than a society can imagine.

Thanks for 'Nuclear Family' and the author notes.

Duane

Duane, thank you for reading my poem and for your most generous review! Yes, when one's family is "nuked", it is a long time before the healing takes place, as all are forced onto a new path of uncertainty. But, there is always hope in life and thankfully, that is what we all look for. Most sincerely, Sue

Very creative and profound. I especially liked the last three lines, it brings it all together and accurately details a nuclear blast and a family healing.

Great descriptive words written here. The words describe what has happened and is still happening and when will this situation stop.

"Ground Zero - shock, carnage, silence
Dreams lying flat, their branches brittle
Broken in scorched scapes

Ground Zero plus five - no dream alive
Hopes spiraled from their once sure destiny
Buried in a gray arena

Ground Zero plus ten - resurrection
Self-titled Survivors growing sprigs
Breathing the dirty air

The Outpost - dare they claim victory
Is the horizon safe to glance at
With its brightness and color

And Beyond - Its name is Future
Not looking back,
We call it Fragile "

Yes this world is very fragile with the weapons on this earth and those wanting to harm us.I felt the writer's words are brilliant and should be read by others.

Honeytree.

Amazing imagery, fantastic! I would give six stars but I don't have any.

The metaphor of the nuclear blast should by itself be brilliant, but each and every line is powerful and packed with emotion. I really don't know what else to say.

This should be all time best.

I am most humbled by your very generous comments and review. To lay one's naked feelings out there, it can be tough, but sharing them and knowing they resonate with others is powerful in itself. Thank you so much for your words. Most sincerely, Sue

A very interesting analogy, but it needed an explaination. I don't know that without the authors notes I would have even considered it a family, divorce and healing. Again a very interesting way to look at the devastation of a family in crisis at the time of, going through, and after the divorce. Nice job. mstad55

Yes, someone else pointed to this very same thing and I am now working on how to incorporate the meaning (without the explanation). Hmmm.....going to be tricky. But thank you very much for raising this issue; it is, indeed, very important.

And I want to thank you very much for your very generous review and all comments. So appreciated. Yours, Sue

Very creative device--comparing the devastation of divorce to the impact of a nuclear bomb and measuring of distance from "ground zero"

I especially enjoyed phrases like: dream lying flat; branches brittle; self-titled survivors-- and its alliteration, I also liked the capitalization of Future and Fragile.

Thank you for sharing what sounded very personal.

John, I wrestled a lot with those capitalized words, but in my heart, they seemed to be a pronoun and in my heart, deemed necessary. I really want to thank you for pointing that out. And for your specific comments on the phrases you liked. And thank you for your most generous review. With warmest regards, Sue
