You are a blithe spirit if ever there was one! Not that that is a bad thing! Your heart seems to be an open door and that's a good ting! Just remember to kick the bad guys out the back door, which I'm pretty sure you are quite capable of doing.
I really like this. You set the scene and invite us in.

Oh, man! We're looking at a flash freeze tonight after a day of record breaking warm temperatures.
And here you are, teasing me with images of o.
Mmm, I can just see you there, enjoying your morning coffee, watching the birds.
Wonderful read, Sharyn.

hey Fez - I figured you'd probably resonate with this one as your mornings are probably similar? :)Sharyn

I usually get up at around 4am and watch what i call the changing of the shifts, cya to the nighttime creatures and G'day to the daytime ones. I am working on a poem as we speak on this very subject which i guess will be called the changing of the shifts or something along those lines, hehehehehe.
-
oh good - I'll look forward to it, Fez. We get up at about 5.50 to do the school dash for my 16 year old - on the other side of the island, do you believe. So Jeff does the morning ride, and I do the afternoon pickup. It means they both leave early though, so I get to enjoy quiet mornings at home, which I appreciate! I've also been reading Billy Collins - have you come across him at all? Very readable free verse - I'm totally enjoying him! :)S

Sounds beautiful out there. I haven't come across Billy Collins yet but i will check him out. I am still to chicken (buck buck) to write in free verse but I will give it a crack soon. There is only one way to learn i think, boots and all.
-
well, Billy is an easy introduction - Charles Bukowski, too ... both introduced to me by Fanstorians. (I'm too busy to read most of the time!) :)

I love the images you create this poem. A beautiful poem to wake up to, especially if you like roosters.
I like the frigid tumbleweed simile, but think you should keep it going to the end of the stanza. By that, I'm referring to the word 'fly' in the last line.
The tumbleweeds have rolled down the mountain, so my suggestion is to find a different word than fly keeps the rolling idea going.
Words like:
to flow
to stream
to trickle
to pour (already used with the coffee)
to sweep (already used with cold drafts)
etc.
Cheers,
DW

I sleep straight through the roosters, thank goodness, DW! Thank you for that lovely six by the way! Hmmm ... you don't like tumbleweed flying, eh? How about - whistle, whisper, whirl, waft, swirl, huff, flurry, gust or puff? I rather like "waft" or "flurry" ... actually I rather like them all ... "swirl" too ... what's your vote, dear?

Sharyn - This is another wonderful poem. It sounds beautiful in Hawaii. I had to check the spelling of it and found out it's part of the United States. Learn something every day. Kat
