Congratulations! Your poem surely deserves top honors. You present the idea of "uplifting" in contrasting verses going from all the way down to all the way up (As the structure of your poem demonstrates...kind of in an upside-down sorta way!!). Interesting the way your rhymes skip and slide...showing up in all sorts of places! You show an agile pen!

Hi, Sharyn. I can see why this gorgeous poem won the contest. Not only is it exquisitely written, but it does lift my spirits -- just as music often does. Congratulations on another deserved win. Warm regards, Bev

good internal rhyme in deep to sleep
good alliteration in crack the classic
excellent sensory appeal
good internal rhyme in notes float
alliteration in myth/music/mist
sculls screaming - great alliteration and concrete imagery that creates mood very effectively

The lower we believe we are the more uplifted we feel we can get. I do believe there is a thin line that separates our emotions and can be turned on and off with a small degree of attitude change in perception. Your poem points that out very well. Congratulations in your contest win!

Another great job, Sharyn. Congratulations yet another win. Every time I turn around, there you are. I really enjoyed this and wouldn't make a change. I like how you seem to always tie your surroundings into the fabric of the lives of others. Maybe it's just me.

thx Rob ... honestly, have no idea where stuff comes from, but I know it's all based on things that I have experienced directly - somehow I managed to tweak them into something else and I usually "know" when it's "right".

So glad you caught this one Bob - I enjoyed writing it! Part of it was actually based on my sitting outside on a cliff top outside my singing teacher's house, and listening to the previous student singing something unbearably gorgeous - I've never forgotten that impression. Bless you for your virtual '6' too - always so appreciated, as is your reading & understanding!
