Hey Debi, that certainly seems like a lot of waiting and very cold conditions! I like your final couplet in each stanza emphasising the wait. Your picture too! There is just so much white! I love snow but then it is a treat for us when we get to go on holidays to the snow, I can imagine it vastly different to live in it all the tame waiting for sun and warmth. Hoping 2023 brings you a spring!

I enjoyed reading your poem, it gives the reader a view of how long winter is in Minnesota. You have a smooth flow of rhyming words that adds to the strength of your theme. Here is Massachusetts we often have to wait for warm weather and some years, spring does not arrive.

This is amusing to me...but I'm thinking that's probably because I don't live there. I had no idea it was so cold so LONG!! Yikes! I'm going to quit my complaining at ONCE! At least we do get all four seasons. This is a good contest entry. Good luck!

Hi Rachelle, I just decided to for sure write this at 10 this morning, and it is the best I could do is satire. Not every year is like this. Last year was bad, so it is usually one year out of four that are this way. And because I can't go anywhere until I am walking better, I get depressed thinking about it. Lovely contest tho. I have something to send you, please check your email in a few. Then I will be gone the rest of the day and evening, but will check to see what you have to say, between appointments.

This is a great poem, Debi, that makes us long for spring, as well as glad we don't live in Minnesota! I moved from Michigan to North Carolina about 10 years ago, and don't miss those looong winter's a bit.

Very good rhyming and iambic meter. Just 2 suggestions on how to make it flow just a little better:

In the 4th verse, if you change it from "still colder" to "colder still" that will maintain the iambic meter. Also, in the second to last line, if you insert "it's" in front of "not like," that will also preserve the iambic meter.

Very nice job.

Happy New year Jim, ! I really appreciate your very kind review and comments for my " waiting' poem, as well as the valuable suggestions!
'We're starting out badly here. Last wk 20 inches of snow, temps minus thirty, close to minus seventy windchill temp and when the wind blew, we had a blizzard. Now tomorrow supposed to be the same. As much as those scenarios can happen, we have had a mild winter here and there.....in my lifetime. Lol!. Thanks again my dear friend!

I enjoyed reading this satire about Minnesota weather in all its different forms. The winter's do seem to be long and unending. Great job on the rhythm and end rhyme choices. Good luck.

You do a nice job of conveying the emotions of waiting for spring. I live in Pennsylvania, its not as bad a Minnesota but I can relate a little. You have a nice rhyme scheme to this piece.

You Minnesotans are a hardy lot! And I'm glad you could describe the "wait" with humor in your poem!
I know you love your state
and can put up with that wait.
But going from snow to heat
Now that is quite a feat!

Suggestions - up to you:
Easter's alway lovely, no matter how it is outside (always)
I'm dreaming of flowers that don't [look] like they died

Thank you Helen, for the lovely review and for catching my mistakes. I was going to skip this one, but decided at the last minute to do it because I had signed up. So with three hours before deadline, I got it written and fixed a couple errors and should be good.
On the bittersweet side, I know that the time is coming soon for your dad's funeral, but sure you want to get it over. I hope you and Jay do some lovely sightseeing alone when he gets there. I'm excited for you as I have been looking forward to it with you. I know how I would feel. Has your mom decided to come back with you? Hope you are doing well, as I worry about you. Love & prayers still coming your way, my sweet friend

Thank you for caring my Sweet Friend! No, I can't convince Mom to come back with us. Currently, our small home is already maxxed out with our youngest adult child living with us. Plus, they say not to make any life-change decisions in the first six months of losing a spouse. We'll see. She already fears the effect of dementia setting in. I guess we'll have to keep making more trips out this way. I'm covered in mosquito bites! Ugh! I can't sleep as every little sound gets me up. And construction and sirens are going on all the time. Enjoy your silent and beautiful snow-covered winter there. 💖💖💖

Before Covid, we would take a holiday somewhere warm and inviting, in our winter, immediately North, in Bali, or Penang, Malaysia, or even in Europe, and on three occasions in New York and Canada...maybe this year, (although 2008 robbed us of our superannuation) beautifully written dear Debi, Have a happy, healthy and wealthy new year in Christ to you and yours, blessings Roy

Wow Roy, you honor me so deeply with your wonderful review, words and gracious six stars. I'm also referring to the last six star review you gave me.
I remember when I first got here, you encouraged me and were so kind. But now to have my work validated with such complimentary reviews by the one friend, who's approval means most to me, is the biggest honor that I have ever had. I am smiling even bigger than I did a few weeks ago when I took my first steps. I hope you always know how much you mean to me.

Never, ever, ever moving to Minnesota Debi! Sorry, but I do like a little bit more sun than that. Don't get me wrong, I like my seasonal changes, I too live on the Canadian border... just in Vermont, where we only have to wait until mud season. ;)
Susan :)
