This line says it all: 'Possessions seem to be the source on which our mansion's built'.
Also:'Locked doors and higher fences now, are not so very kind./Those cold and empty yards will render poor souls hard to find.
Children are too busy playing with the toys technology provides. That they can do inside.
And oh the cost of play toys today.
Give me chalk to draw a hopscotch board on the sidewalk. Or a jump rope for more fun.
I like the repetition of the same two lines at the beginning and at the end.

What a wonderful childhood you had. I never felt safe growing up and we were told to never answer the door. It was drilled into us that there are bad people out there and there were. So glad you had such an idyllic childhood and good neighbors and a great imagination when playing with friends.

I miss those days too! We stayed outside after dark and played tag. We didn't have the same concerns or fears we do in these times. People overall were more friendly.
Sending you my best today as always,

Hello, Roy!
Your poetic offering is filled with insight and resonates dearly with me.
I am still in touch with many of my childhood friends. How very fortunate all of us were to grow up where and how we did...
I smiled when you mentioned holding court as I wrote a poem entitled "The Nights of Castle Fair" about my dearest childhood friends, "The Smith Kids."
Thank you for sharing!
