I think that Pup does care a great deal about you. I like your poem. It is clear and concise. Excellent work! No grammatical errors. Thank you for sharing! Good luck in the contest!

Is there anything like the love we get from an animal? We had an 11-year-old rescue cat that we loved more dearly than I can say. He used to come under the duvet to get warm. When we lost him I said no more. But then our neighbour knocked on the door. She could not look after her cat anymore so we adopted him. What a joy he was. I miss him even now. We were blessed to have two such wonderful animals in our lives.
Thank you so much for your wonderful story, it has brought back so many happy memories.

Thanks for reading. Yes, I swore there would be no more dogs, but what could I do? Hugs.

What a great story! The author's words are heartfelt, interesting,
kind, descriptive and creative. I pondered how the Pup was adopted!
My son wanted to buy a puppy, I said no and then gave in. I saw how it got him through some difficult times. A wonderful story - well written!
Thank you, Maria

Snozzer, your beloved dog, buried in 2009, you had 4 cats they would disapprove of a strange dog, so you want no more dogs. Today, you are seventy-six, your husband is gone; Pup and all the cats remain. Pup would be the last dog. Well said, well done; post more. ALCREATOR LITT DEAR (D R)

Thank you. Snozzer's full name was Barky Von Snozzer. He came as a stray and was only with us a short time. He was 10 when we took him in. Hugs

Wow, I wish I had a six for this. I was expecting a poem and delighted to discover a story. We had six dogs, two cats, two steers and about three dozen chickens over the years and it hurt to lose them all. Our breeder encouraged us to take a new pup and my answer had to be, "My heart says yes, but my head says no." Plagued with a disabling chronic illness,
I couldn't take care of myself, let alone another life. Keeping my older husband and myself going is often a challenge. Nevertheless, I miss my dogs terribly. The cats were drop-offs. I'm not a cat person, but had a tight bond with one. It is so, so hard to lose them. Great story. May you all live on for many years. I noticed a couple of typos.

Thank you and thanks for pointing out the typos. I did the writing in a big hurry this morning and never went back and checked it again. Hugs.

You are welcome. Typo is my middle name. :-)

This story was so sweet. I like that you wrote it for National Puppy Day. Pup is the perfect name for a puppy (and aren't they all our puppies, no matter how old they grow?). Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. Yep, we started out calling her Pup and just never gave her a different name. Years earlier we had a dog named Dog. Hugs

Dogs have a way of getting right into your heart. I have over a handful of dogs. A good many of them rescues. I kept saying the same thing, "no more dogs." Yet, somehow every time I was suckered in and came to love the little devils. Life just wouldn't be the same without them.
