You have captured the essence of a moment in time, a woman's emotion frozen for study. Aware that she is being scruitinized, she masks her embarrassment. The obvious question is whether poetry inspired art or vice versa.

Dear Mark,

From the way she looks I'd say the guy made a serious mistake. (LOL) It raises the question though, why did he?

Thought provoking poem.

Warm regards,

Winslow

Your poem is so true for so many. I like the message. The picture is perfect. I see nothing to change. Congrats on the awards. I enjoyed reading your poem. It makes me wonder why he left so quickly. Oh, but I know.

I can't imagine being rejected, specially
if it is for no reason at all.
Your little poem is very profound it makes
you think, in my way of thinking is, if you
are rejected by one other people might love you.

Being rejected is never easy. No explanation can be a cause for worry. How you react is your decision. the truth is, it is about him , not you. Don't take on his stuff. don't make any assumptions, be you.

This is quite interesting in how it leaves so much left unsaid. We can wonder and speculate on what happened and why. The woman seems to be wondering what happened as well.

Excellent Mark! So many stories left unwritten in this beautiful short poem. But the beauty of this type of poetry is that should leave the reader with much to contemplate. You have captured that beautifully here. Just excellent!
Thank you fro a great contemplative read. rj

Free verse form gives this poem a little more life, making it stand out in its uncertainty of why she is alone, what she will do.
You captured a great deal of life in such a few well chosen words.
Nicely done.

This would have made a good entry into the Tanka contest.

It gives us a word picture and also a story. The main jolt comes in that abrupt last line which gives the reason for her 'aloneness'.

Thank you for your review. I think you are correct, in that it should have gone into the Tanka contest. I had already entered another poem.

He saw himself losing his soul, perhaps. Think of the Adulteress in Proverbs or the Harlot in Revelation. Lust for a woman's beauty...a coral snake is not menacing in appearance...Sin, harbored or incidental, is attractive...
