Sharyn, this is truly a remarkable read. It seems that we don't understand how all the puzzle pieces fit until we've almost through life's metamorphoses, or near the winter of our years. Life's an amazing thing because every generation believes it is unique in the way it loves and lives, but like King Solomon near his end, will each wonder about the pieces of the puzzle? Or will they ponder whether it was all a matter of vanity. Perhaps, sex and procreation are really the mission for all mankind, and we are foolish to wish for something outside those parameters.

Wow...what an exceptional piece. It takes no small measure of courage to put yourself onto paper without reservation. This reads with a completely natural flow and it really pretty incredible. Always thought that you were a very special lady. Nice to see that my judgment is still intact.

ooooh thank you so much for the lovely sixer and for the even lovelier compliments Dave - now I'm going to have trouble fitting thru the door (no, not because of the chocolate - I now have a swelled head, courtesy of you).

Ah Sharyn, this is very poignant, deep and profound - and the ending makes me well up. I liked all of it, but the conclusion, oh it is BRILLIANT! A wonderful free verse, full of imagery and very thought-provoking. I was sad for you with - "River carries me in the accepted life direction of all living things without engaging my heart." I think we've all been through times like that, and it's hard to realize those were wasted moments as our time shortens - I wish there was some magic cure for all the questions we have so that no more of our time is spent puzzled, but then, some of that widens our perceptions and hearts, yes? A wonderful glimpse into who you are, my friend, and a stunning piece of writing.

I'm so glad you liked this one Dawn! Writing is all about "laying it on the line", isn't it?
Blessings,
Sharyn

Sometimes, yes, I guess...at least if it's non-fiction. But you're right; even with fiction, it has to be real, so yes, it is about 'laying it on the line.' Although... my Advertising program at college taught me some neat 'gimmicks'/tricks/hooks - LOL - no wonder I don't have a shopping problem! I know most of the secrets...LOL.
-
by "laying it on the line" I guess I mean "writing with honesty" - when I'm writing I can usually tell if something sounds phoney :))
-
Of course. I knew what you meant. But do we often run across that on FanStory? I mean, sometimes people can be rushed, distracted, or just plain tired and not writing at their best, but mostly I think people here are honest - give it their best try - only a few (like anywhere) are the wolf in sheep's clothing. (And sometimes they are so good at it, you never know you've been a victim.)
-
absolutely! and thank God for mute buttons when needed! :)))))))))))))))))

Yes.

Descriptive walk back through the years. Very bold emotional tones throughout about those mentioned in the poem. Lots of effective alliterations. Very romantically and girlishly toned:)

This piece is nicely thought through and organized in the telling of your story. It's an interesting idea and the read is smooth and held the readers interest beginning to end. I very much like the addition of the picture used.

How many here will look at this as poetry or prose or simply a beautifully written exercise... I see it as a series of curtains and I appreciate the fact you, Sharyn, have allowed me to stand outside your life and watch... mesmerized... as you, one by one, pull each curtain back to reveal whatever it is I'll see... because each visitor will see something slightly different. Slightly different because we will look with eyes that have seen our individual lives and we will compare... we can't help it.
You have blessed me with a look in, not only the window of your life, but the window of your soul.

You really are gorgeous Greg - it's people like you who keep me writing truth. I loved this review (and the six didn't hurt either). You may look at the window of my soul any time, my dear - because it's always a lovely exchange.

I appreciate you with all my little heart that used to be there... and with your permission I'll seek out the window, peer with constant pleasure into your soul... and groove on it like it's always sunrise

Different stages of man, here only three phases of living is exalted, each step of living like the beginning, the middle and the end has diverse appreciation with distinct identities, naturally conveyed the conviction, I liked. 11/214

This piece evokes for me not poetry, exactly, but soliloquy - there is a wonderful playwright by the name of Jane Martin. She wrote an exquisitely diverse series of monologues for women called "Talking With" - Your piece has a very similar sensibility and depth and I think would be very at home among the rest- if you haven't read it - you really should I'm certain you would connect to it. Meanwhile - wonderful piece- proving that the line between poetry and theatre is always a very thin and very blurry one.

Bless you for suggesting - I'll go find her LMN - because (I THINK you know) I've written a couple of monologue shows and I LOVE to read others' monologue pieces! Script is actually my first love - I'm only writing poetry at the moment because I'm procrastinating about finishing it! Thank you so much for your lovely six! :)Sharyn

You are more than welcome - do check out the script - also there's a great playwright by the name of Don Nigro - check out his monologue "Squirrels" - strange and hilarious.
