Yes, even though I complain bitterly about the physical changes aging has brought about, yes, though I feel a little battered and tattered, I appreciate some aspects...mainly knowing that the universe has a way of working things out, even though some problems appear to be insurmountable. If someone offered me a million dollars to go back to being 20 years old, I'd pass..ahahaha

I found it especially amusing that you brought up the point about seeing the reflection of your mother. Nearly every night as I plead with my 20 year old to make good decisions..like not driving 90 miles to a party on New Year's Eve, I hear the voice of my mother saying that very same thing so many years ago...

Well done! :)

oh we have similar mirrors jj - just this morning I was my 16 year old's son worst enemy for not dropping him off to surf at Ho'okipa all by himself when the waves are huge! "you worry too much" ... yep ... hello mom ... :)Sharyn

I like how you brought the humor in at the end with creamy bits of delight. Life too quick and to quote a cliche it seems like it happens in a blink of an eye. Very good poem thanks for sharing.

Growing older is chock full of surprises, most of them pleasant. You begin to notice how much you have in common with your parents, how much you agree with things they told you years ago. You are constantly amazed at how hard it is to get your kids to learn from your accounts of mistakes you made as they are intent on making many of those same mistakes. It gets to a point that you are surprised when you wake up and are able to get out of bed under your own power and realize that God has granted you another day. Let us bow our heads and give thanks. Your are surprised to hear that some ball player is retiring after twelve years of playing and you remember when he was afresh faced rookie. I could go on but you already know. Excellent poem.

I like your humorous free verse and can relate very well. It is so good to know one is not alone, that others feel alike. I'll remember your poem during the year and do as you suggest:

you'll agree
feasting on life now
savoring
each flavor
in small
dreamy
exquisitely creamy
bites
of
delight

Thank you for sharing and good luck for the contest.

:) Ruth

aha...yes growing older does have it's perks. I love how you write about yourself, your son...I have felt that way myself with my children. One minute you are ten wanting to do as the adults do..then you are the adult! It goes by too fast,,good writing.

It's very true, as time goes by you get a little battered and tattered, but getting older has it's rewards as well. You get discounts!!! LOL

I liked your poem very much, it certainly made me think about old age.

Very nice indeed. Very well-written. Not much to have issue with. Nice flow and imagery is good. Like the way you structured it. It added to the message. A classic piece. Wish I had a six to give it. vs
