Heartfelt and full of pain, this poem of loss and tragedy.
Sadly, this is the result of war.
Your cinquain is well written.
Good luck in the contest.

Thanks for the wonderful review..Yes, wars have more causalities than just those on the front lines. Carol

This is truly sad. I had a dear friend who lost a child, and it was the most heartbreaking thing to watch someone go through. Great job.

I wrote in honor of all the mothers who have lost a child in these wars, but the emotions of course will always be personal...You are right! It's a terrible thing that never really ends. Smiles, Carol

I could not even begin to imagine what the loss of a child would feel like. But I can feel the emotion from these few words. Great job with this. Have a great new year.

Carol,
I love your Cinquain poem "Why." The art work is awesome you've used. What I read from your words in the poem is about a mother mourning the death of a child. The metaphor you used "Sweet warmth to come again" described the wish of a mother wanting her child back. The Title "Why" makes sense. This poem is full of depth and meaning in so few words. I wish I had six to give you. This fantastic poem gets my "freaking awesome" award. I'm blown away. You should write more poetry along with your fantastic short stories.
Melissa.
Here is one of my favorite quotes of Gandhi about death:
"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."

Thank you very much. I wrote the poem in honor of the many mothers who have lost their sons and daughters in the war, but the emotions came from the loss of my son and grandson. Thank you so much for reviewing.

A poem of the times, frought
with poignant feelings that
your words invoke of a child
that goes off to war and the
tears that are left behind.
Well done and good luck

Wow..nice imagery. Well written piece. Loved the artwork that you chose. In my mind, the poem speaks about a woman who has lost her military son that was killed in action. If it means something else please let me know but this works for me.

I chose the picture to honor all the mothers that have lost their children in the war, but the feelings came from losing my own son and grandson...Thanks for the wonderful review. Carol

You've done a good job portraying the ever-present pain a mother has upon losing a child- it never goes away, and time does not heal it, though she finds ways to cope.
I like the imagery of coldness that the mother feels as she drapes herself over the metal coffin.
The picture is heart-rending but appropriate.
