NOMI, this is such a well written poem about the effects of smoking. I smoked heavily (cigars and pipes) when I was working in advertising and marketing and when smoking was in vogue. I have now quit for over 35 years and am so glad I did.

On another front, I like: I am haunted by a memory. "Haunting" works well with the topic of your loss. It is such a good reminder.

Well done, NOMI. Perhaps, a little bit of insanity is necessary to remind you of the perils of smoking.

Thank you for your wonderful review and also congratulations on defeating the monster of tobacco addiction.

Hindsight is always crystal clear. The choices made years ago can have deep impact on the rest of our lives. You lost a friend who lost her life. Hopefully people can still learn from the mistakes of others. Much food for thought here

This is a compelling poem full of emotion and sorrow. The way the last line turns into a refrain at the end gives the impression of a haunting presence. Thanks for sharing the backstory and the warning. I'm sorry for your loss.

Oy. This is poignant and spot on in every way, Nomi. I cannot imagine what my life will be should the day ever come when my BFF passes. Thankfully, she is not a smoker, but you made it so painfully clear with this winsome poem, how that complicates everything and cuts into the time that she IS still alive. The lack of "quality of life" exacts quite the toll on BOTH friends, and that is tragic. It's always hard to be the one who isn't suffering from the actual physical affliction, but, instead, has to watch its effect on someone you love.

You've done a masterful job here. Very heart-wrenching. xoxo

I just had to give you six stars for this poem as not only is it so well written I can so relate to it as I also lost my best friend to cancer. I still miss her and think about her although it has been several years now. Blessings. Jen.
