You handled the young heckler well, Terry. You were right, she was a troublemaker maker and you sidesteped her questioning whether Santa is real or not very nicely. Asking her her name and telling her about what her name means is a great segway to your reading your book The Real Santa and how he became the jolly man associated with giving out toys should be fascinating to a girl of six. Well done and good job and I wish you well with selling your book.

Jesse, thank you for reading. I don't expect much on the sales front. But I have had fun with it. Terry.

Having fun with writing books is all the enjoyment one needs to get along in life.

Someone must have sprinkled fairy dust on you for you have been blessed as a writer, and a storyteller par excellence. Your adding a self-made video was a smart way to put a face to the words we share. Thank you.

Tom, thank you for the kind words. Terry.
Comment from Wayne Fowler
Your experience sounds terrifying. Weren't you afraid that the little munchkins would eat you?
If I was to ever have a reading, you have convinced me of one thing - NEVER field a question, just fiddle with an ear like you have a hearing aid problem.
Best wishes and good luck with your book.

Wayne, that's good advice. Thanks for reading. Terry.

You were so clever with your replies here, Terry. Children are the best critics if you want the truth. They question everything, and this question comes up so many times. I might pinch your replies to the young Goldilocks's questions. It's a daunting experience to sit in front of so many of these little interrogator's and come away smiling ... but you did! Masterful!! Well done, and I hope you sell millions of books! Sandra xx

You've passed with flying colors! If you can bob and weave with the children, you're capable of any book critic this side of the North pole.
I read your book... It is a great new take on Santa! My grandson loved it as well!
Little Miss Barbara Walters Jr. was determined to trip you up...and ho ho ho! She failed.
Kids are the toughest! I hope your book is a best seller, Terry!
I love it!

Karenina, thank you for the six stars! It has been interesting to be part of the process. I am not sure it will be a big seller, and the marketing is tough. Terry.

Hey, "The Celestine Prophecy" was a self-published book and Redfield sold the first, oh, 100,000 copies out of his trunk! That's quite the road trip, but if you get out this way, give me a shout! (smile)
-
LOL, well my days of travel are over. I don't sell books directly to anyone. In fact I have to pay the outrageous price that Amazon charges, just like everybody else, for the few I have bought and given away.
-
WHAT? Oh my gosh! That's just not right! Maybe you can sub-contract with Santa and have him drop them in stockings all over the world! (I'm assuming you don't actually own a sleigh...or reindeer)---
Smile...

LOL...that's a thought!

I knew this day would come. The day that eventually this man would become a boy. Lol.. no, you and Zoe had no children, only cats. But cats don't count for having fun at Christmas and enjoying all the fun through the eyes of a child, feeling that young at heart that only children can awaken in you.
No, you didn't have any of your own, but you were one. And that's who lit the spark that wrote this book, it's the child in you that has you doing what you can to get it to children, young and old this holiday season.
And no, I don't believe it's the only thing giving you the drive. After all, it was a lot of work to get to this point. But I believe that it's the boy in you that is making you enjoy wanting children from all over, to read what is new about Santa. And why you truly want them to know the rest of the story.
I think that is pretty cool to see the boy in you come alive to tell what happened a very long time ago........ Congratulations!

Debi, thank you very much for the six-star review!. You are right, my experience as a boy is all I had to draw upon. But if don't think cats count for Christmas...just wait till you read my next Christmas story which will told by a cat! LOL, coming soon. Terry.
-
Oh no, I didn?t mean they don't count. I?m afraid I worded that all wrong. I was saying that you can't see Christmas excitement and feel the joy it brings thru their eyes and leaves a life time of excite for holidays.
Yes, that came out wrong.
-
But lol, I can not wait for the poem!
-
What Poem?? LOL, are you trying to make a poet out me?
-
Oops, I meant story.
And yeah right, like who would think of taking a prose writer and making a poet out of them. Almost as ridiculous as doing the opposite, right? hehe!
-
LOL!!!

What a series of neat little sidesteps! Very well done. As a teacher, I ca guarantee that kids will ask the unexpected question with the tricky answer. I think this was an artful dodge. All the best of success for your book!

I like the way you handled yourself in what could have been a tough and sticky situation. Interaction with cute little blonde girls can be tricky, say or do the wrong thing and the crowd quickly becomes hostile, you could be run out of town on a rail. Maintaining your cool is crucial at a time like this, you are trying to sell books for crying out loud. It begins with you selling yourself. That little girl was no doubt sent by the devil to try and set you up for failure. If I ever hit the trail to try and sell one of my books, I will draw upon your experience to try and navigate what may be rocky waters.

Clever answers to those awkward questions. One of my granddaughters aged seven incurred her father's wrath for telling her little sisters that Santa wasn't real. I told her gently (she was upset at being in trouble) that her role was to "keep the magic going" for all these fantasies.
I am sure your sidestepping was a brilliant response, and I'm equally sure that they loved your story.

Wow, Terry! I'm so proud of you! I would be stumped by those smart, little kids but you went back to what you're so good at - being able to present under pressure and you delivered! And you did just the right thing by asking Diane's name and answering with what Santa means. Brilliant answer! We never did Santa in our household because my hubby got in trouble defending Santa's existence on the playground in first grade. He was mortified to learn his parents lied to him about this god-like person. So your answer makes us rethink it. Great job!
