An engrossing story that benefits from the linear movement to the upsetting details. I guess you have to pay a price for building a house in their territory. LOL

Thank you. Yep, this home was built on land that belonged to the wildlife first. I guess we are the ones who are trespassing. Right? The blackbirds keep reminding us of this point.

You did an excellent job with your contest entry PBB.
I enjoyed reading it. Your words were descriptive in
that I could see everything as I read. Those critters
really let you know they were around and meant business.
I laughed at the part about you taking care of the raccoon.
It seemed you and Cindy figured a way to live in peace with
the cast of critters. Your garden sounded awesome.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan
I suppose that could e [ be ] considered a victory

Thank you. Thanks for catching the typo. I have edited and corrected it already. I'm glad you enjoyed reading about our wildlife adventures. At least life is never boring around here.

I think this is an awesome entry to the Wildlife Short Story contest. The story is interesting. The tone in humorous. The tale is relatable. I remember my mother putting cayenne pepper and moth balls around the garden to keep away cats and rabbits. There were a few typos. "M first inkling" needs to be fixed. "I suppose that could e considered a victory," needs to be fixed. "Perhaps their not vegetarians." Should be they're. Other than those little things, I think this was fun, well-told, compelling, and enjoyable!

Much enjoyed, prettybluebirds,
Your offering is relatable as I am an avid gardener, and last summer, the first summer in the 34 years we have lived on our property, deer arrived and decimated over 600.00 dollars worth of perennials ad flowering bushes. Just gutted.
Please note the following needed edits:
~M (My) first inkling that there was another problem came when I heard Cindy screaming.
~I suppose that could e (be) considered a victory, but those birds knew when Cindy was gone and took full advantage.
~I figured we would have fresh strawberries for breakfast tomorrow. (the next day.)
~Perhaps their (they're) not vegetarians.
Thank you for sharing!
Happy gardening!

Thank you, and thanks for catching the errors. I was pooped last night and didn't read the story over like I usually do. It sounds like you had a deer war on your hands. They can be extremely destructive if they find something they like to eat. I have already edited and corrected the errors.

Really interesting account especially for UK readers because you describe many unfamiliar species! Sounds as if you have an unending battle on your hands! Hope you get some strawberries this year!

Thank you, and thanks for the six stars. The blackbirds returned yesterday, and the war between them and my niece has resumed. Lol
