Hello, Doug,
Not only did I read, "Magnum PI Was My Dad," when you first posted it, I voted for you in the contest, but I didn't write a review.
Perhaps because it rang too close to home.
Not because of my parents, but because of my sisters with whom I have not spoken with since the death of our mother in 2007...
Have I forgiven them?
Yes...but I haven't forgotten when they did...
Do I have regrets?
Certainly
But I no longer have ulcers.
I no longer have anxiety attacks before every holiday.
And I sleep very well at night...
You have written a beautiful essay.
People here are truly caring of one another...

Six stars for putting it all out there. Cool to read all the encouragement you have had from this good group of people.
Many bad things have been done to many people over the centuries. And many of us have done those bad things at some point or other, and been done to.
But each and every one of us has done enough wrong things of our own, and continue to do so, that we need the forgiveness of God. And Jesus Christ, who never did wrong to any person, suffered and died on the cross to buy us back from the unpayable debt for our sin. All our sin is ultimately against God who is completely just and so He requires that evil acts be paid for with harsh punishment. But He paid for them Himself through the Son, so that we who look to Him would be completely forgiven and become His eternal children to be like Him in goodness and to be His family forever. The great plan of God is all about forgiveness. So being forgiven and forgiving go hand in hand. No one could deserve God's forgiveness any less than me. But He has forgiven me. How can I not forgive another? He will stop all the evil soon, and future eternity will unfold like a poem or a story or a song that could never be told or imagined. This is a great hope that heals all wounds, calms all fears and transforms dead men to everlasting sons of the Creator. Yes, forgive, and be forgiven.

The text is a great size for a longer piece of prose. The message is clear, you have the support of a lot of us because we understand. I like many others also have had abusive childhoods.
I think in this section you meant to type "compassion".} incredible level of comparison and character....
I am glad Doug; you are opening up and letting what has festered inside out. As an old saying states, "light is the best disinfectant". The visual fits well. Eeyore is my favorite character. I wish for you continued healing blessings.
