Yes, this speaks of heartache and regret, and yet there is still a chance they might be happy and get along famously. I never got married nor had children but I had a wonderful relationship that lasted for many years. In those years we had plenty of good times and some hard times came along but through it all, we still had love between us that lasted until death do us part.
Give the sweet couple a chance like the one that was given to me.

Oh, I love this poem. At first, the last line puzzled me until I read the Author's Notes and saw it was a grandson. The first stanza is beautiful as an intro to this fine writing. We can't always warn the younglings. Many times life's struggles make them stronger. Great job!
