AMEN! I hate guns but I will fight for people's rights to own a gun, but never for children or teenagers to have free access to guns. I don't understand some parents. Why have guns accessible to children? And from reports the parents knew in advance this child had problems.

    Yes, and now they are trying to act like they are not responsible.

You have written a poem that reflects the modern world and current events. Your smooth poetic flow of words and lines adds strength to your theme. A poem that should be read by all.

We have just heard this story on the news here in NZ. The parents have apparently been found and arrested, caught hiding out in a warehouse. The mind struggles to comprehend what the parents were thinking when they got him a gun... like seriously!

    To live and rejoice in the antics of the little homicidal monster they created.

I'm sure you know the parents are now in jail--where they belong--with their son. Details of news reports make it crystal clear that they could have
prevented this tragedy. Your poem is very well-written and certainly timely.

    Thank you Jen. I wanted to make it rhyme, but I also wanted to hit home the seriousness of the theme.

The signs of being unstable should have been recognized in this case. Prayers are needed for the families who are involved. This case is active so I will not say too much, other than it is such a tragedy.

I heard of something like this on the radio this morning. The parents were charged with something I had never heard of before. I think it was 'involuntary manslaughter' because they had bought the gun. Dereliction of parental duty is what I would call it.

Weren't there more than one victim? If so that last line should read "victims' blood..." with the apostrophe after the 's'.

    Of course you are correct, as usual. Yes this is a very sad statement on our gun happy society.

I liked this poem and the subject is so difficult to comprehend for me as we don't have the same problem with guns here in the UK thank goodness.
I still can't get my head round why anyone should want a gun. I don't know why people go shooting and call it fun. We have shoots here where birds are reared just so people can go out and shoot them for sport, I think this is horrible. But I liked you poem well done.

    Thank you. I did not know that you were not from the US. Your pen name sounds and seems so American.

This is soooooo good. A timely poem considering the attention to guns these days. I was impressed as I read through both the poem and author notes, for your center of attention was gun responsibility, not gun control.

Your poem was a creative expression of the horrific loss of life, not because of guns, but because of whose hands the gun is possessed by, particularly those having mental issues.

- Your first stanza was strong, expressing the lackadaisical attitude of the parents of the young killer;
- The second stanza expresses the devastating results and the same lackadaisical attitude of the teen (thanks to the parents);
- Your last line, along with the title, created the imagery needed for those that are dumb-witted and lackadaisical.

Well said, Nomi! I thought you did a superb job handling this theme within your rhyming verse. I also support gun responsibility!!! Your form is perfectly crafted and a good form for this one.
