Diane,
I got up this morning and while having a quiet cup of coffee, with my wife...with our two Springers curled up at our feet.
I opened up my Fan Story page to see that you had this new writing posted.
My wife and I read it together and we found ourselves in strong agreement.
Fear, darkness, rage, thoughts of what divides us,
makes us different, and lack of personal trust in mankind and in government.....need to be defused by diplomacy.....talking.....sharing....listening.
We loved To Mend This Broken Land....
and you have my first sixer on this glorious Sunday.

Thank you, Sammielwf! (I just now realized that your moniker = Sammiel and wife! Yes?)
I am honored by your exceptional rating and complimentary review.
So very pleased my words resonated with you and your wife and you did not find them trite or maudlin.
    Such unsettling times...

    Wishing you a beautiful week!
    Thank you!

    Diane,
Good guess as to the Sammielwf moniker-but nope...that's not it. I like that story line and when I share this with Terry- she will say...okay let's roll with that!
However- since so many Fan Story reviews have asked what the sammielwf stands for- I should write a tale about it. The actual story is quite amusing and would definitely get a laugh or two..

What an exceptional poem!! I really like what you've expressed as well as the expert way you've stayed within the sonnet guidelines.
I really like the last two lines: "With hope renewed, I'll offer you my hand. With trust regained, we'll mend this broken land."
Thank you for writing such an outstanding piece!

The Shakespearean sonnet is one of my favorite formats for poetry, and I've read no finer use of it than this -- your volta makes me shudder, although understanding is truly what might help the world to heal.

In my experience though, 'breaking the dark rancor's grip' is an impossibility, at least for any human.

Stunning poem!

Unfortunately this seems to be the political climate paguing most countries! You have expressed it so very well in a heart-wrenching way. Indeed a very well written poem. Thanks for sharing!

Hi, a very heartwarming poem and very well written about the present political situation in the USA, and the continuing conflict between the two sides. Women as well make up part of this confusion not just men, Harris and Pelosi come to mind when at the previous elevation never accepted the result, doubt they would want to hold anyone's hand except their own. Cheers Colin

    Hello Colin,
    Thank you for stopping by.
I wouldn't classify my sonnet as being "heartwarming," but that's an interesting perspective.

    Thank you!

I read this one aloud, Diane. Your meter is perfect. My favorite line is
"If only I could walk with you a piece"
Everyone has good in them. You have to truly believe that. Then, your heart opens up to their perspective and that walk helps to dispel misunderstanding.
This land is so broken. Your poem offers hope.
Just a note--is there supposed to be a photo in the bottom right hand corner? Mine just has a blank square.

    Good Morning, dear Debbie!
So pleased my words resonated with you.
Did a bit of editing just now ...
I am sorry the bottom photograph does not appear on your computer; it does on mine - and on my iPhone.
    Wishing you a beautiful Sunday!

This happened once before with my computer. There were times that I could not see Fan Story artwork. I changed from Safari to Chrome and that fixed my problem. Wish my tech son-in-law was coming for Thanksgiving.

The picture held my heart as I read this heartfelt poem, full of hope and faith that someday we can bring it together. Excellently done rhyme and flow for the sonnet contest

This is an interesting piece, because the subject matter is unusual in the sonnet form. The poem is well written, but I would like to see spaces in between the stanzas.

    Hello Susan,
    Thank you for stopping by.
Sonnets usually deal with unrequited love, etc, but they can also deal with themes of social concern.

    Thank you!

This is a plea for unity in a very troubled, and divided America. We watch as your country fights it out between the two presidents, one won't leave, the other is waiting. Our country isn't much better, I sometimes wonder if they know what they're doing.
You've penned a lovely sonnet, Diane, with a message all ought to heed. I think it should do very well in the contest. Good luck! :)) Sandra xx

A very well-written sonnet about the current situation in the world where there exist no trust between fellow men. Some are not honest in what they do and blame the ones who find the truth.
