This challenging (to me) style has served as a fitting vehicle for this well-written,
creative, informative piece about one of the greats. Your word choices are vivid and strong.

Oh, how I agree about the challenge of this style, Janice! I cannot tell you how many times I counted and re-counted and then re-counted again [when I erased words, would that be considered "discounted"?] in order to ensure I hadn't made a mistake that would get me disqualified! So it means a lot to me that you think this turned out well. Thank you for the positive reinforcement.

A fine description of Beethoven and his magnificent works. However, I can't comment on the structure of your poem as my iPhone has just decided it won't tip sideways. Grrr!

Lol. Well, you can trust me when I tell you that I counted and re-counted and re-counted SO many times that I can guarantee the count is perfect! But when you get your sideways line of sight, you can double-check for me just in case.

I believe you!

I appreciate that!!!!

This was such a wonderful piece of writing. Obviously, you have a great knowledge of one of the greatest composers of all time. I think you really captured him in this uniquely form. Great job and good luck in contest.

Awesome! All the syllables and all the lines are there, not to mention that a story, reviewing the great Beethoven's life and works has just been told.
I commend you on this fine work.
Best wishes in the contest!

I think of Beethoven as inspiring. He had so many tortures, and yet he refused to shrivel up and go away. Instead, he powered through and honored his talent and brought us such beautiful compositions.
Thank you for your feedback and your well-wishes for the contest, Jan.

Absolutely an inspiration! You're most welcome. My pleasure. Jan :-)

Well, the syllable count is correct, no doubt about that.
The poem itself felt rather dry to me, as if you were simply making a statement or reciting some sliver of history from Wikipedia.
But, that's just my opinion, there's nothing technically wrong with the poem.
Good luck to you in the contest.

It's more than your opinion; it's you being candid and honest and trying to help me make my entry better. So I totally appreciate this review, Dean. Someday, though, when you're on Jeopardy and get asked whether Beethoven was in the Classical or Baroque period, you are going to answer with the utmost confidence, "NEITHER!!!! He was the bridge between those two!!" And you will be rewarded with far more than just member dollars; let me tell you THAT!!! So, you're welcome, in advance! : )

If he were an artist he was baroque.... pun intended. Lol
I love this and I can't imagine how hard that was for him to lose his hearing...poor guy but he did not give up ...makes me admire him even more

At least it saved him from hearing your painful joke there, Kiwijenny! But as long as we're on that track: Do you know why Beethoven killed all his chickens? Because he sick to death of hearing them say, "Bach, Bach, Bach." hahahaha.
Thanks for the fun review.

Dear Mystery Poet,
This poem read so smoothly - which I have to imagine wasn't really easy to do, since you were given restrictions for format, which you had to consider. 'Easy reading is **** hard writing' - one writer once said. *smile* Kudos!
Much good luck to you in the voting!

Fortunately, I love a challenge, Robyn, or this might have been my undoing this morning! Thank you for such a really nice review here. I appreciate it.
Comment from Ross E Silke
This is very well written! I find the red on black a bit too scary though for its presentation as I don't think he was all that 'evil' as the colours suggest, but apart from that, the poem reads very well and written at a rather professional level. I like you picture choice too. You've described Beethoven's life quite well with all your choices and descriptions. I'm sure there's lessons to be learned from his life but he did make it big by investing in his talents but was in need of deliverance from his bondages that in a way stole his life which is very sad; his life then given through his music to us, but poor fellow, I wonder if he had much life of his own--. Those are my thoughts. Intriguing and thought provoking. Good descriptions.

Thank you for this very thought-provoking review, Ross; I liked it a lot. I chose the red-and-black because it feels conflicted, which he was. I appreciate your opinion on that very much, though, and hope you will never be shy about letting me know things of this nature. It's you trying to help me; that's always how I take it, and that's a very wonderful thing, indeed.
