Whew! Powerful! I thought we were dealing in metaphor, and then we weren't. You delineate the character just right--no sentimentality, no turning away. It forces compassion. I like that.

Very many thanks, Katya. The poem was inspired by a TV interview with some of the survivors of a bushfire that swept through a small coastal town in New South Wales last week, utterly destroying 70 homes. All the best, Tony
