Very moving.Thank you for sharing a bit of your life with us.
The only thing I might consider changing is "-collection of books and dogs nestled- I would replace and with a coma. It sounds as though you have not only a collection of books but also a collection of dogs.

Hi Patty, were you married at 18? I had 3 guys tell me they wanted to marry me between 18 and 20. I ran from each one! LOL I love real life stories. You and I may have some things in common in our childhood. I think it's great you are going to write on it.
