The Tulip Festival on 8th street in Holland focuses on tulips of course. But there is so much more to do! Yes, I've been there--me--the horror guy (but don't tell anyone. It might spoil my reputation, heh-heh.).
The Tulip Time Festival celebrates Holland's Dutch heritage with a week of events and special attractions. I happen to love parades, and Tulip Time features three - the Volksparade, Kinderparade, and Muziekparade. The Dutch Marktplaats serves up plenty of Dutch food, merchandise, and demonstrations, while the festive Kinderplaats provides kids with a park-full of activities. Throughout town, they have many chances to experience traditional Klompen (wooden shoe) dancing, as well as the Art & Craft Fair, Quilt Show, carnival rides, concerts, theatrical shows, fireworks, trolley tours, and so much more!
Great Lune paying homage to a wonderful event.
Best of luck to you in the contest.

You are so right Dean. And they have liked it with Cinqo De Mayo making the festival just about 2 full weeks. It is snowing just north of us today. With any luck we will miss the snow this time. Sometimes we have stem festivals due to early blooms but Holland does a splendid job of planting early and late bloomers in the mix to show off some color.

It's been awhile since I was there. Perhaps fifteen years or better.
I have an aunt, my father's sister, who lives about sixty miles away in Battle Creek. She took me and my family there once during a visit. It was great fun!

I think the rose is sometimes over rated, I love tulips! This is such a cute and lovely picture of these beautiful flowers. I just wish I wasn't in an apartment so I could grow them again in my yard for all to adore in passing. Thanks for sharing!

Tulips are beautiful and colorful flowers and are popular all over the world along with roses of course. A wonderful photo to compliment your lune poem.

Exceptional. I love the picture of the tulips, Angie. Congratulations on you recent win with the ch-ch-ch-change poem. I was disappointed my story about your dad and the kitten only came in third. Like I said, can't win them all. Good luck in this contest; you have a great entry.

Hi Aunt Ruth.
How are you? I was getting a little worried when I didn't see anything from you the last few days. Hope the flu bug didn't get you two. No snow here yet--yea! Hopefully, we get skipped this time.
Thanks, I really liked ch-ch-ch-changes. I was happy with that one.
So good to hear from you--Love you.

I love all the local festivals across this land. One of the great things about our Country. I live in Tennessee and we do BBQ in more ways than you can count. I would love to read a short story about the drive, might be really good.
Have a great day and God bless.

I fail to see how a lune can be considered a condensed haiku. Only the second line is "condensed" to three syllables. Inverted haiku perhaps long-short-long as opposed to short-long-short. In fact it has nothing to do with haiku and isn't even Japanese in origin. If the whole thing is flushed left then the right hand side will curve like a crescent waning moon, or flush it right to get a waxing moon shape. Hence the reason for its name.
Although yours fits the syllable count perfectly the short syllables in the first two lines will not give you a pronounced crescent. However I would still advise presenting it flushed to one side or the other to get something of the shape.

I lived close to Holland when I was growing up in the 50-60's and never heard of the tulip festival. Is it something new, Maybe I just missed out. A lovely poem.

It's been around for a while. Holland super promoted it back in the 70-80's. The governor leads one of the parades.

Your Lune is as beautiful as the Tulips. It is informative and has a lovely picture to support. I did not know that Michigan is also famous for Tulips and there is a big festival for it. I thought it was a honor exclusively for Holland.
