Hi Brett. I found this a very poignant read, and I don't know what style of music you envisaged, but I could hear the long ago voice of Jim Reeves singing this, or Kenny Rogers (????). loved it, alf

Powerful piece of writing. This would make a wonderful song in country western style. I love the refrain... a whole lotta man in that little boy. Well done! :)

This is quite an interesting poem that the author has created with this piece of work. There is a young man just waiting to get out in every boy. We just have to nurture them and not torture them and try to help them to become everything that they can.

This is a sad Country song. I am not sure about how it starts though. Is it the boy or the father that gets knocked down? I enjoyed reading it and liked the ending a lot. Thank you for sharing.

Neither. The father is driving along and they come across a dog, or an animal of some kind, that had been hit and the father uses that as a teaching moment to teach his son how to treat all animals with due respect not just the two legged kind. Appreciate your comments.

Hi Brett, this is a wonderful story told in lyrical form, when I first started reading it I thought 'This doesn't work' but I was thinking in poetical terms.
As lyrics your words work wonderfully with it's repeating end line holding it all together and serving as a short chorus, I wish I had half the talent you have my friend.

The first stanza is about losing the family dog? This is a nice poem that walks through growing stages and the different lessons learned. It's a little like a country song, and "there's a whole lot a man" certainly rings like a lyric.

It is a Country music lyric indeed. Appreciate your comments.

Hi there,
This is very lyrical indeed. I like the juxtaposition of the voices in the piece. The narrator, the father and the son. Good word choices and an excellent rhythm.

From childhood, everyone tries to have an identity of his own. Unfortunately, the personality development gets stunted in the face of too much of parental control or interference. Given the support and encouragement from parents, every child can excel in some field or the other. Your poem nicely underscores the above least understood aspect of life.

This poem really does seem like a song, and I thought that before I saw the comment at the end. It is bittersweet, which life really is.
I love the way you tie in the son, and how well you represent those special features that finds the man inside the boy, and if you ask me, the converse is true!

I love this poem! Your story line is outstanding and your rhyming scheme is on point. The only thing I could see, although I do not know if it was done purposely. You have written bad thing I done instead bad thing I had done. I thought it may sound better. Although it is of course your call. :)

I wrote it as though a 10 year old boy was talking. What do you think? Appreciate your comments.
